Roseandchan,

Re Gunely legs, in the GCs community if someone had a beer gut, and dressed clumsily they used to call him Arkatzitis, a person from Argaki village. And if someone was poor and wretched they called him Tylliros, a native of Tylliria about which there is also a poem,

"Ta kakomoira ta Tylliria

Anypolita kai titsiria"

Poor children of Tylliria, barefoot and naked.

Then there was the accusation that Morphou people spoke with a drawn out effeminate accent, that Limassolians were gangsgters (even in the 50s the town had a rep for lawlessness, Lefkosiates were toffee nosed, Paphites uncouth, and generally a lot of snobbishness was shown towards men who clung to the traditional dress, the vraka and the snake boots.

For a small place the island harbored a lot of prejudices.

our friend was always called chicken boy at school, because of the village he came from. he hated this, apparently all the kids from pinarbasi were called chicken boy or chicken girl.
