Do village or Town rivalries exist in Cyprus?

Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

in our village yes. always about football.
i have tried to explain to some people that it is not acceptable to got to football to have a punch up with the other team or their supporters but for them its tradtional.

they have a saying about a leg disability which they call 'gonyeli legs'. apparently this disability originates from the community in gonyeli? i have even asked my friends at the other end of the island about this ,they know the saying but can't explain where it came from. i think its pretty cruel as not all the people in gonyeli have this disability. i am interested to know if this saying is used in the south? also why the whole of the north blame the people of gonyeli?

Its amazing how today's TCs remind me so much of the GCs from 40-50 years ago!

I think Rose was talking about punch ups between the players which suggests that refereeing is poor, disorganized, and not respected.

Well, what did you expect from the war-like TCs. They have to practice their 'fighting' skills. Or do you feel you are missing out?

"Nikitas, I fully understand and support your love and nostalgia for your enslaved hometown but please!"

How else do you account for the fact that Limassol, Paphos and Larnaca saw so much improvement since 1974? It was because the Famagustians were forced to move there, and being enterprising people developed these areas of the outback.

It is also a well known fact that when Famagusta is rebuilt the rest of the island will be in dire straits as the talented Famagustians return to their home town.
