DOHHHH.....forgot about them, so what are the bets that the GC will be offered anything they want and told anything they want to hear, so as tassos can stay in power.

One of tassos pledges:

Vote for me and i will make the world believe that the Akritas plan was for the benefit and safety of cyprus and was a form of animal control.

LOL, yeah, he'll make it...
He'll be around alright, but I don't think he'll be able to avoid what's coming. They're setting a new initiative up and he can't play the same game twice.

Or can he?

turkcyp wrote:So there will definitely be talks in the next three years. But I really doubt that there will be any solution agreed at the end that can satisfy both GCs side (because they now have higher expectations) and TC side (because they do not trust Tassos).

You never know may be everything is better this day. May be at the end of the day GCs wake up from their day dreaming that is preached to them by Tassos and got rid of him, and at that time may be TCs are so fed up with uncompromising Tassos that who ever replaces him will be more welcomed. So may be after February 2008 we can find a solution. (You never know, may be I am day dreaming right now. :D )

We will wait and see, where this affair will end up at.

So that's what this thread is about...

OK, I see your reasoning, Turkcyp. It does make sense.
Still, I find it very hard to believe that T-Pap et.al will be able to convince GCs to reject yet another solution plan that comes our way - because, whether he wants to or not, the mediators are not going to let either side drag it on forever; I think something will eventually come out of the new initiative. And it's going to be all his this time, so there won't be much he can say, especially if the UN SG satisfies his 'no arbitration, no time-frame, agreed solution' preconditions - which seems to be the way it's heading.
So, he either gets stuck in technicalities and causes a deadlock (unlikely - how does he explain it afterwards, especially with the looming mistrust against him?), or he goes all the way and ultimately the people get to decide again, with both him and the people knowing that if it fails this time, too, it's over for good.

So, I see it ending with this new initiative. Then again, I am as optimistic as we come, so one can only hope.

turkcyp wrote:p.s. One comment about this, 'no arbitration, no time-frame’. These conditions only ensures one thing that this new initiative will be just a waste of time Saint Jimmy. Why?

Erm... not really! See, they can tell him whatever, 'no arbitration, no time-frame, no this, no that' but come on! If they want to pressure him and make sure he doesn't cheat (as in 'waste time to get his way') they'll just do it. Now they're sending Congressmen over, supposedly unofficially; well, that could get official - or something like that... Or, simply, 'you know, this can't go on forever... you got to work something out soon, or we'll just call it off'. And then...? They have lots and lots of leverage, see...
The key point is that we all know this is the last chance. And no one wants to be held responsible for blowing it, imo. Sure, we'd all like the most we can get out of it, but it all changes if we know that if we try too hard to get all we can, there's a good chance we'll blow it and then have to carry the burden.

Do you see what I'm getting at?
