How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Ah, yes, but when Tassos won the last election, more people were happy that he was leaving the Spokesman post, than for T-Pap taking over the Presidency...

"PAPAPETROU GO HOME" was the slogan that day!

Well, he's still a senior member in a small party 'Enomeni Dimokrates' (United Democrats - the one Vassiliou is leading). He is the Vice-President, but the party is very, very small (2.6% in the last elections in 2001) and is very frequently attacked for its members' progressive ideas, because they are regarded as against the will and interests of the Greek Cypriot community. The last such incident I recall is when their Secretary General Costas Themistocleous said that we should refrain from using the prefix 'pseudo-' when referring to anything concerning Turkish Cypriots, because this harms the climate of friendship that had been fostered since the gates opened. They crucified the man back then and demanded that he resign his position.

Wow... So Greek Cypriots do decry the dissidents, who express views totally different than the official position. This is usually what was happening in North aswell, but the ones who had been accused of being "Greek sympathizers" are now in the government. Anyway, thanks for the info.

I remember that... bit of a witchhunt wasn't it... got very heated for a few days before another target of wrath was found...
