Well France left in 1966 (under de Gaulle) and The European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) had been going from strength to strength despite "sabotaging" by the UK .... and in spite of Sarkozy's recent reversals in the NATO sphere, I think if we watch our backs with the obvious undermining coming from NATO, it is still the way forward for Europe to mature. Greece could do with throwing itself into the ESDP (and Cyprus).
