How on earth can anyone be critical of Cypriots who emigrated to the UK in the 40s 50s and 60s I will never understand.
As one who left Cyprus in 1961 at the age of 15 in search of , not only a better life but also in the knowledge that unlike the Limassol Lanition Gymnasium that levied rather high charges , ( I did 3 years ) the UK was , at that time , providing free education.
I arrived in the UK on my own and was extremely lucky to find accommodation and work at a small hotel in Victoria named Apollo Hotel !!! Started work the following morning , the system allowed me and presented me with an opportunity not only to attend school and learn English but also provided me with free health service and above all
the opportunity to progress further. Yes I'm grateful to this country , yes I have managed to integrate while retaining my roots and respecting the culture of this Great nation that attracts millions of immigrants from every part of the globe , and they are not attracted to the UK by the weather !
The UK Cypriot community is well respected for its industriousness , its family values and its ability to blend in and be an asset to this country.
It is true that the vast majority of Cypriots were from villages , the poor the hungry for a better life but they have bloody well done well for themselves . They have stood shoulder to shoulder with their Cypriot compatriots and carried the torch for Cyprus here in the UK.
For a pompous arsehole to come on and make derogatory statements damning the UK Cypriots , as he has done before , its a f..ng disgrace , his inflated ego and thirst for adulating comments from equally minded half wits has clouded his vision , but let all know that We the UK Cypriots are grateful to have had the opportunity to provide our selves , our families and the CYPRUS ECONOMY with benefits derived from the UK.
