She has been taught a few lessons this weekend ... and I think she has developed a soft-spot for Get Real! ... so she is being more pro-GC than usual

What lessons were those then??? In your dreams  I have never had a problem with GC' s. You're the racist bitch! You are just bitter & twisted!! Crawl back under your stone and do everyone a favour STELLA GRIVAS!!!

Stella Grivas? 8)

She seems to get some satisfaction out of calling me the most (perceived) awful names she can think of (even started a thread about it  ) ... and then pretending she does not have a "dark side" ....

If people are genuine and have useful skills to offer a country or can improve the economy what's the problem? Poor old sun-starved, over-taxed, credit-crunched Brits! How can you blame anybody for looking for a bit of sun and a quieter pace of life? Britain has a more tolerant and respectful attitude toward immigrants than virtually any other country I can think of. British people have diverse origins in terms of race and religion but the British Isles are over-crowded, NHS and other public services are stretched to the point of being dangerous (I speak from experience as a doctor). The typical immigrant story (e.g. USA) is that the more ambitious and successful people with strong work ethic and skills to offer look for a better lifestyle. So in theory then it will be skillful, hard-working Brits who come to Cyprus? Who can blame people for looking for a bit of sun when you look at the strong geographical relationship between the incidence of depression and lack of sunlight? One in three of all consultations to the GP in the UK are for anxiety/depressive illness and our economy is grinding to a hault. I agree that living as an ex-pat in another country calls for respect and interest in local culture and customs. Perhaps there's a specific issue with Brits in Cyprus that I'm not aware of, then it would be more helpful to be specific. But surely just bashing people on the basis of their nationality alone is frankly racist. It makes me very sad because I thought Cyprus would be a wonderful, peaceful country to call home.

I am a Brit and I bash them.

There are basically two types of Brits who come and live in Cyprus. On the one hand we have those who come here and accept Cyprus and Cypriots for what they are (me). On the other hand are those who can't accept Cyprus and Cypriots for what they are. These are the ones that get bashed for constantly moaning with comments such as:

Things shouldn't be like this in an EU country!
Why can't I get a decent job even if I don't speek Greek?
Why are Brits always charged more then Cypriots (this is bollocks)?
Why don't they learn to drive properly (I agree with this to a certain
extent)?
Why are all the forms and bills in Greek?
Why is it so expensive here (which it is if you buy the same products
you bought in the UK instead of buying the healthier products that
Cypriots do)?

I am sure that if there are any that I have missed out, someone will add them later.

To conclude. This is Cyprus and we like it the way it is!

I'll comment here by way of support to CBBB, and further add to Dr. Titsup, that he has (inadvertently) painted a far worse picture of Britain than indeed anyone else has on this forum  ... yet he cannot see that this is exactly why we are so protective of Cyprus. We have seen the extremes of deprivation an erosion of culture can cause, and as you say CBBB, we like Cyprus the way it is .... extremely cultured.

I detect also that Dr Titsup is throwing out feelers to find out who will be the first to bring up Britain's Colonial atrocities on Cyprus ....

....and that honour falls on to your shoulders Oracle.

Cyprus without brits...

Postby Tony Antoniou » Thu Jan 15, 2009 4:01 pm

To think 25yrs ago when I was in class almost no one new where Cyprus even was....
I was born in the uk and now live in Cyprus which I call home, a charlie as the "cypriots" say I feel that Cyprus has change in too many ways to how it was. The brits have brought a good quality to Cyprus. Its now mixed race and mixed up. The cypriots have only themselfs to blame if they dont like thier contry now. And Im Cypriot! Over pricing property so the locals, with the money they earn can only dream about buying a house.
One world and Cyprus is a small part of it. Shame it got spoilt by greed.

Still a safer place that the u.k. but for how long?

Ha ha! Dr Titsup is a she and not a he by the way. And also I'm probably painting the most realistic picture of Britain because I am still the only person on this forum who ives here! Do you think it's right that people have to wait 6 months to see a specialist doctor, and that's across the board- neurology, gynaecology, general surgery, you name it...In Cyprus you can see a specialist for 40 euros on the same day! Then after you've waited your 6 months you see a junior doctor who's been on the job only a few months because the consultant's on a conference somewhere? The NHS here is now known to be in crisis, and one of the worst healthcare systems in Europe. This isn't my opinion, it's on the news every night of the week. People have to go to France or Germany to get their hip replacements and many others are dying on the waiting list for cardiac bypass. Speak to any one of your friends or family members about the health service or social services. One of the biggest current affairs in the UK is the number of children who have been murdered by their own families while social services did nothing! It's not my opinion, read the papers, watch the news, talk to people you know who still live in the UK if you don't believe me. I love this country and its people, but we're sufferering from injudicial immigration polices, over-crowding and the appalling new labour government. Every day another bank or high-street chain goes under and people are losing their jobs and houses by the droves. Talk to people living in the UK about these issues and then tell me I'm exaggerating!
