Banking Help

Postby Neil » Sun Oct 05, 2008 11:04 am

I am moving out to Paphos and getting out of the UK HORAY and need a bank account to transfer funds. Can anyone suggest how I might do this from UK before I leave.

Here's some of the major players all of which have online banking or "direct banking" as some call it. You'll need to create an account to start with of course...

Bank of Cyprus

Laiki Bank

You're welcome. It looks like the Bank of Cyprus has UK branches in London & Birmingham… :)

But anyway, here’s some more Cyprus banks to shop around…

• Arab Bank
• Hellenic Bank
• National Bank of Greece
• Commercial Bank of Greece
• Société Générale
• Universal Bank

You may lose your Chirokitian credentials promoting Hellenic banks

I seem to remember (in a different thread a long, long time ago) that somebody from here went to the BoC in London and they told them that they were not linked to the BoC in, um Cyprus… :?

That would be right!

I had to open a separate one in Cyprus to my account in London and the same goes for Laiki (Marfin Egnatia now) in London and Greece/Cyprus.

Unless things have changed since a year ago ... One way to transfer the money would be to arrange with your UK bank to carry out a ROY-World (Express) transfer having filled-in a form before you depart. Then open an account once you're in Cyprus ..... phone through the new account details to the UK, and they then do the transfer ... it only takes 2 to 3 days to arrive.
