The other day you did not think much of the July 74 Turkish military invasion and criticized me for yearning to arm and today you ask for respect for the colonizers!

Until such time as you’re prepared to accept others violating YOUR home and family, as the GCs had been copping it from Brits and Turks, I hardly think you’re in a position to pass any judgment on this matter.

I will always pass judgement, Cypriots are not the only people in the world to have their families raped, murdered, tortured and have homes and belongings stolen. Cobb on mate, my family have also been through it and still remember today.

Funnily enough, you’re often quick to support Israel, despite them having one of the world’s largest and deadliest military inventories (thanks to uncle Sam), but I’m sure you Jews enjoy that privilege because it provides you with the SECURITY you want to be YOURSELVES (albeit on someone else’s land but that’s another story).

Well guess what? So does everyone else yearn to attain such security to be themselves so it’s pointless in telling me to “Cobb on” (and what an awful expression it is... ) given that my country is under occupation and has to deal with an invader 100 times our size.

Cobb on mate, it is awful insn't it. Do what I did, join the forces, help those who cannot fight for themselves. I have just retired from 6 years in a reserve unit after serving in the regulars. I am all for security and freedom of individuals, just like my last trip to Afghanistan last week.
If Israel want me so be it, I am game to fight for what I believe in.
Oh I forgot to add, god forbid anyone that gets in my way.

The British Australians and New Zealanders lost tens of thousands of men in Gallipoli in the first world fighting the Turks, who lost just as many. They were subsequently encouraged to put up memorials to them by the Turks. This is what the Turkish president said on unveiling the ANZAC memorial in 1934.

Those heroes that shed their blood and lost their lives... You are now lying in the soil of a friendly country. Therefore rest in peace. There is no difference between the Johnnies and the Mehmets to us where they lie side by side now here in this country of ours... you, the mothers, who sent their sons from faraway countries wipe away your tears; your sons are now lying in our bosom and are in peace. After having lost their lives on this land. They have become our sons as well.

The Australians were so impressed by the chivalry of that response that they later put up a statue to him in Canberra, with those words inscribed below on a plaque. What a contrast with some of the bitter comment on this site!

I see no statues of fallen German soldiers being erected in France or in any other country Nazi Germany occupied in WWII so where does that put your argument?

Let’s face that it’s a “simple” case of some invasions & occupations being “good” and some being “bad” depending on which side you’re on.

I can assure you all that there’s no such thing as a “good” invasion & occupation and therefore ALL should be condemned because NOBODY likes submitting to a foreign power and nowhere does it say in the good book, or anywhere else for that matter, that some human beings are above and beyond others!

The bottom line is that most human beings are full of shit… and they’ll happily step all over the rights of others while kicking and screaming should anyone do it to them!

Indeed, humanity is overrated. :(

bubbles dear you have to accept that the British in colonial times were barbarians. They halved the Australian indigenous population when they arrived here. Cook was no means an angel. Despite the fact that there were inhabitants on this land they proclaimed it terranalious.

So the sooner you accept British past the easier it is to hear the truth.

ZITO I KYPROS and thaks to the EOKA dudes for kicking British arse. :) have a nice day all

Try Le Cambe France GR. No statues of German soldiers but a well maintained German (Nazi) WW2 cemetary where thousands of German soldiers are buried. Funnily enough a site of many a British and French school visit.
