ANIMAL RIGHTS DEMONSTRATION TODAY 3PM PARLIAMENT NICOSIA!!!

Postby junemichael » Thu Oct 02, 2008 7:45 am

Hundreds of thousands of animals are born every year in Cyprus. Many of them are strays and don’t have the basic requirements for survival… Still, they are killed every day in the streets, abused or poisoned by mindless people, while others are herded by the tens into shelters or put to sleep…
The situation is a tragic one and has gotten out of control due to the apathy of the state! It’s time to put an end to all of this and wake up the responsible institutions… It’s now four years since Cyprus joined the European Union, so let’s demand that the laws that apply to animals finally be implemented. If necessary, other laws should be created or the old ones reconsidered. Let’s put pressure on the government to respect, in deed and not in word alone, the feelings of tens of thousands of actual animal lovers, and to put up a barrier right now against the brutal rash of violence being senselessly inflicted by some of our fellow-citizens on these innocent creatures. Let’s all call for the organisation of special educational programs to educate the public from an early age, even in schools.
Since, for all of these reasons and many more, a more concerted effort is needed, let’s put our voices together and fight for a better tomorrow for the animals of Cyprus… Because it’s certain that together we will have better chances of succeeding!
ANIMALS HAVE RIGHTS TOO!
HUMANS STOP BEING INDIFFERENT!
LET’S SHOW RESPECT TO ALL CREATURES ON EARTH!

MAKE SURE YOU TAKE THIS AFTERNOON OFF AND JOIN THE PEACEFUL DEMONSTRATION OUTSIDE PARLIAMENT IN NICOSIA AT 3PM. THIS IS OUR ONLY CHANCE TO MAKE THE GOVERNMENT SIT UP AND LISTEN AND GIVE PROTECTION LAWS FOR THE ANIMALS OF CYPRUS.

Cyprus Parliament building is situated just opposite of the old General Hospital of Nicosia and in front of the Municipal Theatre in the centre of the town.

In Nicosia, you will see Kalisperas traffic lights. You go straight through 4 traffic lights, pass outside of Hilton Hotel on your left and drive straight to Makarios avenue. At the crossroad, you go straight through the trafic lights till you cannot go straight any more. Then you turn to the left and drive all straight (through 3-4 traffic lights) until the end of the road. Turn right and drive for about 300-400 m. and at the 2nd traffic light you will see the Parliament's building on your left.

In the north, we have similar situation.

However, thanks to some sensible britts who have set up a few animal shelters, at least some of the "man's best friend(s)" have been kept under protection. LONG LIVE BRITAIN on that account !

Still, it gives me a great sense of shame and disconfort every time I see the the carcasses of dead stray cats and dogs run down by vehicles all around the roads here.

But, hey, this is the north cyprus after all !

Turkey, on the other hand, has the worst record, because although animal rights law has been approved in the parliament, it has never been implemented and the situation of stray animals is simply horrible there.

But what about the E.U member RoC in the south ? Is it any better there ?

I wouldn't have expected to witness such cruelty towards animals in a country that prides itself to be the E.U member and whose citizens keep parroting about human rights to us, TCs.

Before calling for human rights, strive first to provide some for animals in your E.U member shit country!

I will follow up this case, be it by way of media or by other means !

I wish I were there, but today I going out of Cyprus !

Until the RoC government strictly enforces this law by way of heavy fines and imprisonment, I am withdrawing my support to Cyprus peace talks !

So Cem you advocate animal rights before human rights. If I was another member of the forum I would suggest this is because your are all animals anyway, but I am not, so I will say get your priorities right!

It is disgusting how the governments in every country don't enforce animal protection laws even when set in place, yet without our animals there would be no plants and without plants we wouldn't be able to eat or breathe!! Us animals lovers have to help the animals as it seems no government will and we will never give up fighting for their rigts. We all deserve to LIVE in this world.

Surely without plants we couldn't have animals?

I am no expert, but surely the plants evolved before animals (not counting single cell things)?

Somebody?

If you don't have anything to say to support the demonstration or the animals then please do not make a posting on this - THANK YOU.

June ... CBBB was quite correct, and it is essential if you want to make a protest, to not become the butt of a joke for getting something so fundamental as evolution wrong!

Having said that; I agree Governments should invest substantially into our fellow animals, as we are a very destructive species and give them a raw deal. They have as much right as any human to enjoy their life on Earth.

junemichael,

Sorry, but if you wish to post crap without being challanged, you are on the wrong forum!

I didn't say I am not in support of the demonstration, but I cannot stand people trying to justify something with inaccurate infromation.
