Unfortunately the Cyprus Donkey Sanctuary is run and funded by the UK Donkey Sanctuary. The Cypriot Government were less than generous when asked for funding from the previous volunteers running the sanctuary.

The UK government doesn't fund the UK Donkey sanctuary either.

But it is a successful charity with lots of funds and not many donkeys in the UK .....

"The difference is striking with respect to treatment of stray animals. "

You are not telling us, and perhaps yourself too, the whole truth. All the countries you mentioned have strict control programmes in place and strays that cannot be housed are put down. The reason why Vienna and Copenhagen are not awash with strays is that eventually strays are KILLED.

As long as you and others like you avoid this simple truth and try to import your own versions of animal welfare to countries in the Mediterranean there will never be a sane approach to the problem.

In Greece the animal lover lobby has convinced the Athens Municipality to collect strays, neuter them, vaccinate them and release them back into their "natural environment" where they can chase cyclists, bite pedestrians and spread protozoic diseased to our pets.

There is no vaccine for protozoic disease.

So those of us that have pet dogs live in dread of the annual Kala Azar test. All because some "animal lovers" have put a high political cost on real animal welfare through their good contacts in the media.

Cem try searching for the title "animal control officer" on the net and see what you come up with and which "first world" cities have them and what their job is. Then come and tell us.

That is exactly the same as here. Dogs are social animals and will eventually form packs that do wreak havoc on roads and farms etc. I believe that a cull is needed and non-release policy for strays. And although it sounds harsh, these animals need to be put to sleep if not re-homed after a reasonable period of time. In the meantime education in schools is whats needed, as too often older people are set in their ways. Not every culture sees animals the way some of us do, I was accused of being cruel by several Cypriot friends who were horrified when I got my dog neutered when he was 12 mths old!! I do not believe that Cypriots are worse than many other Med countries - any one who has been to spain at Easter time will surely have witnessed the sale of fluffy chicks, dyed pink or blue? They last just a few days - but hey they look cute don't they?

Did I sat that ! the UK Government does allow tax relief on all donations to the sanctuary. The sanctuary also takes and will take donkeys from any EU country, as was the case when the Cypriot sanctuary ran into financial difficulties due to lack of funds.

The Sanctuary was started in the mid 1980's by Malcolm C.P. Stevenson. He rented an area on Ladies Mile Road where he was better able to care for stray cats

Founder surely a Britt or how otherwise the locals (GC crooks) would think up starting such a charitable act ?

As for:

All Britts in the management save for a local as president, just to keep up with the appearances and help fostering the image.

Catsnip

Domain name suffices....

British Forces Animal Welfare Society (BFAWS)

http://www.bfaws.org/page2.html

The name speaks for itself..

Still another:

http://www.windowoncyprus.com/donkeys.htm

"Friends of the Cyprus Donkey", is a registered Cypriot non-profit charitable association, started in October 1994 by Mary and Patrick Skinner in Vouni village, when their original family of "pet" donkeys had suddenly developed from three to six.

To think that Cyprus Donkey is the only representative idol for all Cypriots!

And a fine sample of the sweetness of Greek Orthodox priests below:

So ??? Not tired of shooting yourself in the leg, missile boy ?

Or would you like to come up with further examples to make a dork of your own self ?

Imbecile !

Probably, The Cypriot Government wouldn't want to have too much advertising about its electorate !

Particularly about GetReal, CBBB and Oracle !

So far Tess is the only one who shows any awareness of what actually needs to happen to stop the stray problem in Cyprus.

FACT IS that in first world countries strays are a)collected off the streets b)temporarily housed and c)if no homes are found are then put down. There is no other way to deal with the problem. In the days of the British occupation in Cyprus we had the same system.

In Cyprus some people think that the above process, which goes on in ALL advanced countries, would be cruel and unacceptable for Cyprus. They are trying to impose their arbitrary will on a community by LYING about the practices of other countries.
