That Turkey is crucial, has an effective veto call, and that TRNC, the Turkish Cypriot community or whatever else one wants to call the north has a very limited room for manoeuvre is no secret. It is known by GCs hence their negotiating difficulties, including the issue of recognition. It is known by TCs hence the difficulty of organising a genuine internal alternative. And it is known to Turkey whose actions over the last thirty plus years are predicated on that veto power.

None of this is new to any one. What is in dispute is how much room for manoeuvre and negotiation each of us thinks that TCs have got. Some say none, some say a little. Some don't care and wish there was none. Some don't want to negotiate with anyone at all.

Regarding recognition and whether Talat is recognised as President, a president, a leader or as head alopecian ... I've just got to say 'who gives a crap ?' The recognition/non-recognition is in my view and infantile disorder elevated to a bogus international 'principle'. The fact remains that Talat was invited to speak to PACE; it is he who is negotiating with Christofias; it is the bald one who is in talks with the UN; it is this not/president who is engaged in diplomacy with the EU.

People may swear that he is not a president that he is a potato on a stick : all the while though, he talks like a president, acts like a president, behaves like president, and is treated like a president.

If it looks like a duck.....walks like a duck.....sounds like a duck....

President Talat has had many visits from my friend who is the head of the Derneks in the UK.....As we speak more unity is being achieved throughout the British Isles. President Talat is in no doubt what the TCs want. believe me...... 8) 8) 8)

I doubt that all the TCs want the same thing,Zan.
I also doubt that President Talat of the trnc (breakaway TC state recognised only by Turkey) can deliver everything the TCs want, even if their wish was uniform....I think Talat has the most difficult job in the whole world....All the responsibility, none of the Power...He must be a massachist to want that job.

Of course they don't all want the same thing...At least that is what they think any way.....What I have found is that we DO want the same thing but people are confused how to get it.......Besides the pure partitionists any way...We want a fair deal. In no way do we want our representation in power dismissed and in no way do we want to surrender all our rights and our country to the ill gotten "RoC"......The rest is just detail.
