Paul Newman R.I.P.

Postby SSBubbles » Mon Sep 29, 2008 3:53 pm

I was saddened when I hear the news about Paul Newman dying last Friday, (26th September)

Who can forget his brilliant acting career, his great generosity and of course his long marriage to actress Joanna Woodward - unheard of in most walks of life let alone in 'Tinseltown'!

I loved his movies, but my favourite has to be when he played opposite Liz in 'Cat on a Hot Tin Roof' Classic! (Yes, it even beat Butch Cassidy, but only just!)

From Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid:

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head (JUST LIKE NOW !
And just like the guy whose feet are too big for his bed
Nothin' seems to fit
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

So I just did me some talkin' to the sun
And I said I didn't like the way he got things done
Sleepin' on the job
Those raindrops are fallin' on my head, they keep fallin'

But there's one thing I know
The blues they send to meet me won't defeat me
It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me

[trumpet]

It won't be long till happiness steps up to greet me

Raindrops keep fallin' on my head
But that doesn't mean my eyes will soon be turnin' red
Cryin's not for me
'Cause I'm never gonna stop the rain by complainin'
Because I'm free
Nothin's worryin' me.

R.I.P Paul Newman, you will be remembered !

Didn't know he passed away :(

My favourite film with him is The Sting, a movie I still watch when its on TV and a movie which is also proudly sitting in my movie collection.

He must have been one of the most handsome men, ever! 8)

... and spent several months in Cyprus whilst filming "Exodus"...

Hope so Oracle. Just read this on wikipedia...

"Newman was a co-founder of Newman's Own, a food company from which Newman donated all post-tax profits and royalties to charity.[4] As of May 2007, these donations had exceeded US$220 million.[4]"

Glad that you came up with "Exodus" example. Then, you might perhaps recall the part of the film that goes such as below:

From: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0053804/

Cypriot guide: The island of Cyprus, madame. World famous for beauty, and long, tragic history. Been conquered many times, conquered by Phoenicians, Assyrians, Persians, Macedonians; also conquered by Greeks, Romans, Byzantines, Turks. Purchased from Turkey by your esteemed self, the British Empire. All Cyprus most wanted the British.

Kitty Fremont: [correcting him] I'm an American.

Cypriot guide: Fond of Americans, also; we Cypriots are fond of everybody.

I haven't made any comment here simply transmit a piece from a popular website.

If I am to make any comment, better to source them from film guides than sourcing from dubious "political analysis" websites whose neutrality and expertise leave much to be desired.
