Having lived on Cyprus for the last four years, I thought it's high time we became better acquainted with the wines it has to offer. Can anyone recommend a good bottle of Cypriot red which doesn't cost any more than 10 euros?

Thanks.

Not being a drinker, I cannot recommend any particular make. In most 5 star hotels they use Island Wines as a cheap house wine and it seems people like it.

Sorry but for less the 10 Euro you aint gonna get quality, but quantity yes
There are good quality Cypriot red wines available, these are not cheap but then again they are produced by mostly small wineries who dont go in for mass production. Unfortunately these small Cypriot wineries cannot compete with the French, Italian and New World producers, many of who sell their products at below or level production/transport cost. It's probably too strong to say that the foreign producers are 'dumping' their products in Cyprus but the selection of Cypriot wines decreases annually.

If you are into spirits of the liquid kind and Zivania or Brandy does not quite hit the spot then Blended Scots Whisky is a good buy as it costs less than the equivelent amount of Listerine mouthwash at most supermarkets, just dont use it as an alternative to mouthwash if you are going to drive anywhere

Dear BerkshireScouse,

most of the usual comments are from people who drink beer with lime, accompanied by a pack of smokey Bacon crispes (i.e. Cypruscrump & Bananiot)

All the following are under Euro 10's

- Tsiakkas Cabernet Sauvignon & Tsiakkas Chardonnay
- Etko Salera Red & Salera White
- Etko Cabernet Sauvignon Rose

enjoy!!!
