(Hi D

You mentioned Kivisili in a post last night. One of Mrs BillC's aunts has lived there since 74 - took refuge there from the Karpas. Lovely lady. Small village, been there many times.)

Me and BK share an aunt from there. Great Turkish family. The largest landowners from Larnaca all the way to Kophinou. I spent a lot of my childhood there, with BK aunt.

I know the church there and related a story about it last year.

I will repeat it.

My uncles house was a two storey house near the church. Those days there were not many houses around it (unlike today). As kids we would climb up the roof of the church and through the slit windows see the glistening icons.

In the village there were no Greeks living at the time. I never found out why. Perhaps conversions or moved to Alethriko nearby. But the anual Panegyri was what we waited for mst. People, GCs and TCs would come from all over the island.

One day my cousin said he would like to remove the cross from atop the dome of the church. I was about 9, he was 14. As he got hold of the cross (made of stone) his father, my uncle came from inside the house and shouted at us to come down, and asked us what we were doing. My cousin said he did not like to wake up every morning looking at this cross. My uncle gave him such a slap in the face, my cousin still remembers the pain. My uncle told him that the responsibility of the church was entrusted to him and he would not break that trust.

I think that this action saved his life from the EOKA. He was taken prisoner but released later when the local GCs intervened from Aletriko.

He was a good man RIP. His son also grew up to become a good fellow also.

I thank everyone for their comments, but I have made a decision to leave, as I have now exhausted every possible avenue on CF. I have found the answers I was looking for. I am unfortunately a time poor person and now need to concentrate on other things.

As for that poll, it was never my intention to force Miltiades to leave CF, but took his challenge to test his word and integrity. I do not want him to feel guilty. It is apparent that CF is more important to him than it is for me.

My patriotism for Cyprus is what had led me to join CF. But I find that even this is at risk, not from the Turks but from our very own. I have certainly experienced and witnessed many things which I consider a betrayal against those that either dedicated their whole life (Makarios) or sacrificed life itself (Pallikaridi, Avxentiou and co), so that we can enjoy freedom and a better life. I prefer to keep my idealistic views intact as well as my integrity and hence my departure. Cyprus must be the only nation in the world where many of it's citizens disrespect such ideals which basically makes a mockery on the whole nation's foundations. The mere fact that some even belittle the very Republic itself, is a disgrace and IMHO is treasonous to the country all because these individuals do not have any national pride, honor or self esteem. But then one of these individuals even reconciles this treason by stating that in life we much seek the best option and not for the unreachable or unrealistic. Justice and Human Rights are not an option, nor a privilege but are a fundamental right for all mankind. And any option that depreciates these basic fundamentals must be rejected outright.

Although I have never met anyone, I hold the relationships I have developed here as very dear to me. Particularly with an individual, who shall remain nameless. This relationship has endured many ups and an unfortunate down. I am grateful that this relationship is still intact despite my own stupidity.

I will still follow many debates and subjects so I will still be around. Please, do not make any song or dance over my absence as this just makes me feel very guilty. I may even return one day, if I have anything worthwhile to add, or have the time. In the mean time I wish you all the best and may we all soon be celebrating a unified and free Cyprus, with human rights and democratic equality for all.

I just thought it was fair to post my photo as everyone else seems to have theirs on CF. Now you can put a face to the name! :) Unfortunately, no one can vouch for it's authenticity.

Finally we attract a good-looking forumer only to lose him again! Paphitis you look so sweet, I can't believe you are so wise too. :D

I think you realise your undoing will be your passion. It's such a shame one has to detach oneself from what one desires the most, in order to protect sanity.

Because of Cypriots like you, we need to continue to demand the removal of the life-sapping Turks from our soil. You should be here, not Turks :(

Please post whenever you can, even just a few times a week.

I am really going to miss you.

Hugs
