`SOVEREIGNTY` WAS THE MAIN TOPIC OF YESTERDAY’S ROUND TABLE MEETING AT LEDRA PALACE.
Leaders and representatives of some Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot political parties have came together at another round table meeting organized by the Slovakian Embassy at the Ledra Palace Hotel.
`Sovereignty` was the main topic of yesterday’s meeting hosted by the Democrat Party.
A proposal, titled, `Sources of Sovereignty and its reflection to the Future`, tabled by the Democrat Party was discussed during the two hour long meeting.
The proposal was calling for the creation of a committee to `search for realities and to find common points` on the issue of sovereignty.
At the end of the meeting, Slovakian Ambassador Anna Turenicova said that the parties discussed the issue of sovereignty and the establishment of a committee.
For his part, the Democrat Party Leader Serdar Denktash – who was also present at the meeting, told reporters at the end of the meeting that the parties failed to reach a common point on the issue.
`No common point was reached on our proposal. Thereupon, we proposed the inclusion of a sentence saying that the rights granted to the Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots in 1960 should be protected in the continuing negotiation process, in the final statement to be issued at the end of the meeting. But, even this was rejected`, Mr Denktash said.
The DP leader added that Greek Cypriot political parties proposed to voice their support to the ongoing process in the statement to be issued but that this idea was rejected by them.
The next meeting among the parties will be held on the 17th of October.
