Fileleftheros sacks award winning journalist for speaking he

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

EricSeans wrote:"Perhaps the basic problem of our mainstream media on either side is that they are too much attached to the official agenda of the ruling political parties and choose that way instead of taking the difficult path of questioning the rhetoric and the ideology behind that rhetoric in circulation."

To me as a journalist this is the crucial passage in Uludag's piece. If no major circulation newspaper in Cyprus treats its readership as adults, presents the facts as it should do and lets the readers up their own minds then history is tragically in danger of repeating itself.

Bravo ericSeans.........It seems many on this site have lost site of that fact as well.....Bravo!!!!

As journalists then we must tell the people the truth, that there is no non-partisan paper or other medium, and that media do have political and financial affiliations, in Cyprus as in every other place in the world. IF there were not such ties there would be no media magnates. So let us be honest with ourselves, please!

I do recall reading Sener Levent in GC papers before 2004, but cannot say for sure if I read Uludag back then. And the Cyprus Information Office does have a summary of the TC press in translation, both English and Greek daily. The translation is not tip top but the service is useful just the same.

Do you think the Daily Telegraph publishes articles by Marxists? All freelance journalists face this kind of pressure to toe the paper's editorial line or not be published. As Nikitas says, her work appears in other Greek Cypriot publications.

Did they publish her before this particular article Tim???

I haven't a clue mate. Given your proclivity for digging up news items from years ago and making a song and dance about them, this could date from any time.

By the way, are you aware that Uludag is a passionate supporter of reconciliation who believes that Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are capable of living together in peace and harmony? Far from complaining about Fileleftheros not publishing her, maybe you should be complaining that Yeni Duzen publishes articles by her on a daily basis. It couldn't have happened when Denktash was in charge.

you are wrong on this one Tim ,
Yenidüzen and Afrika (Avrupa) always published this kind of the writings during the Denktash Time as well .

have a look archives of these papers .

Not with the same degree of confidence. Yeni Düzen was only a weekly at one time. Look at what happened to Kutlu Adalı for stepping out of line in his Yeni Düzen column. I don't think Sevgül Uludağ lives in fear of sharing the same fate.

As for Afrika, I am sure I do not have to remind you that this rose like a pheonix from the ashes of the Avrupa newspaper. Do I have to go into the tactics used by the Denktash regime to shut that one down?

I love this reversal of roles.......Defending the in-defendable by gauging it's severity with others.....Wrong is wrong and what you accuse others of is happening under your own noses too. Politicians sacked.....People intimidated.......Governments threatened by teachers lead by "EX" EOKA ministers and the church.......Sameold same old.........

Can I end thıs trilogy by remembering the Turkish cypriot intellectuals
Ahmet Muzaffer Gürkan and Ayhan Hikmet who were butchered by the TMT on the same evening of 23 April 1962. Their crime? To publish a newspaper entitled Cumhuriyet whose editorial policy supported the peaceful coexistence of Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots within the RoC, a message that was anthema to Denktash and his clique.

What was that somebody was telling me about the Denktash regime and press freedom?

Halil, didn't Levent claim that the Cyprus Dialogue is funded by a "trnc" ministry?
