What is odd about these latest new members is the fact that their names are so similar to the emergency 'passwords issued by ADMIN. Has anyone noticed this fact.Or is it just me. Something fishy here. Who are the ADMIN? Anybody we know?

Hi D

I've been looking at these "new registered members" with strange names for a long time. Didn't put the same connection as you on these peculiar names.

The newest one is now "Moreoppolvez".

I thought these bizarre names might be computer generated examples of hackers trying to get on to the Forum (for whatever reasons). Presumably they would fail to become proper members as, as far as I am aware, in addition to registering, Admin checks and vets each new member.

All very curious.

(Sorry - just editing this lest Moreoppolvez is a real new member and offering sincerest apologies etc...)

Sometimes I get locked out and ask ADMIN for a new password. The form of password is similar like the title a few digits a few letters, some uppercase and some lower case.

This afternoon, when Bafidis mentioned new members on the forum, I checked the bottom of the front page where it tells you about the total number of members. Who is on-line etc. It also adds the screen name of new members. Usually the last addition. Within a few minutes there were two additions, but instead of names, there were these funny numbers and letters. IMHO these are new additions and the passwords were dsplayed instead of their screenname or nicks.

I hope I made myself understood Zan.

Genuine newcomers nicks usually have at least one sylable which makes sense. It would make remembering nicks easier. The above numbers are almost impossible to remember (until multiple repetitions).

Hello,

What you see are accounts generated automatically by bots or manually by spammers. Most of them register just to have their profile details, which include URLs to porn and other such websites, listed on our forum. Unfortunately for them I have modified the forum software so that their profiles and those URLs are shown nowhere and therefore they do not receive the benefit they hoped for. In a future upgrade of the forum I will make it more difficult for bots to register new accounts. Dealing with spammers that manually create accounts is not as easy though.

I am doing my best to keep the forum spam free and this is why you will almost never see posts by spammers littering the forum.

denizaksulu, the passwords are issued automatically by the forum software and not by me. This is why you receive them immediately after you fill in the "Send me a new password" form. The auto generated passwords are in that form because that form is the hardest to be guessed. It is not advised to use a dictionary word or a name as a password.

Thank you
