"It all depends if the GC refugees in my ancestral home wish to leave their home of 34 years. Then their are the increasing number of heirs to inherit the properties mentioned. More than half the buildings have long disappeared, only the newer stone buildings are used for habitation. The garage and stable and the laege wedding room (Kemerli Oda) are all gone.
I think the only option in most cases like ours is to sell up.(last resort).

THis is the situation I had in mind when posting several times that in any genuine solution there would be provisions for Cypriots to return.
Expatriated Cypriots, and there are many of us in this forum so we know what is going on, have it bad not only from the effects of conflict, but also from the greed of those that stayed behind and arbitrarily took over properties.
In my family we have experience of this from both sides. In my mother's island we lost a plot because most people had emigrated. The clever sods that remained took over my grandfather's house and now there is a four floor block on the plot. We are effectively expropriated.
The same crap goes on in Cyprus, and not only cross community, but also within each community where GCs take over land of expat GCs and the same happens with TCs. It is time we put an end to this crap. And the solution process is a good chance to start over.
The choice of north or south is meaningless if you have no land left to go back to in either place, worse if your land is being exploited by members of your own community.
I will of course make an exception for Famagusta and buy a new place there assuming this mess is cleared up in my lifetime.
