The Platform is formed by the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce, the Businessmen Association, the Chamber of Industry, the Contractors’ Union, the Hoteliers’ Union, the Union of Employers’ and the Young Businessmen Association.

The Economic Organizations Platform aims to put forward ideas on general issues in addition to economic issues, such as the solution of the Cyprus problem, and particularly calls for the implementation of transition conditions necessary for the free-market economy.

The founding goals of the Platform include preparing projects and creating a leading vision on the implementation of contemporary practices, and making necessary efforts for the implementation of the free-market economy in the TRNC- which is defined as a liberal economic structure primarily based on the private sector.

The Platform also owns the vision to remain committed to democratic principles and the rule of law in the way towards making the free-market economy come into power.

Speaking during the signing ceremony of the protocol, the President of the Turkish Cypriot Chamber of Commerce- Hasan Ince said the current structure in the Republic is not a sustainable one and the 7 economic organizations have jointly formed the Platform to give a stronger voice on the issue.

More power to the Turkish Cypriot people.........Against the "RoC"...

Don't forget "VOTES FOR WOMEN!"

The Cyprus issue is one of the main topics at high level meetings held by Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Foreign Minister Ali Babacan – who are both in New York for the opening of the 63rd session of the United Nations General Assembly.

Turkish President – who addressed the UN General Assembly today – will hold bilateral discussions with the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-
Moon.

The Cyprus issue is expected to be one of the main topics to be discussed by Mr Gul and the UN Chief.

The Turkish President will also hold bilateral meetings with heads of state and government and exchange views with world leaders on regional
problems and the issues at the UN platform.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Babacan delivered a speech on Turkish Foreign Policy at the New York based think tank, the Council on Foreign Relations.

On the Cyprus issue, Mr Babacan said that it was very important to find a fair and permanent solution to the problem.

He said that Turkey considered 2008 as a window of opportunity and supported positive approach of the Turkish Cypriot Side towards starting comprehensive talks.

He said Turkey welcomed the launch of the talks between President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias on September 3rd.

`Turkey hopes the new process will lead to the establishment of a partnership state by politically equal constituent states on the basis of a bi-zonal bicommunal order, where the 1960 Guarantee System will be protected` he noted.

The Foreign Minister also issued a call for the implementation of the former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan’s report on Cyprus which calls for the lifting of the international isolation imposed on the Turkish Cypriot people.

Babacan said that the support to the UN Peace Plan, or as it was known the Annan Plan in 2004 was the evidence that Turkey wanted solution in the island.

Stressing that the Turkish Armed Forces would remain in

Cyprus as long as the Turkish Cypriots needed its existence, he said `the number of the Turkish troops would have been reduced, if the Greek Cypriots had accepted the Annan Plan`.

Pointing out that the reason behind the current deadlock in Cyprus was the rejection of the UN Peace Plan, he said `Turkey is playing a key role for peace and stability in the region and Cyprus is important for peace and stability in the Mediterranean `.

Earlier, Mr Babacan – who is accompanying President Gül during the visit – met with the US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.

"He said Turkey welcomed the launch of the talks between President Mehmet Ali Talat and Greek Cypriot leader Demetris Christofias on September 3rd."

Contrast this phrasing with Greek foreign minister Bakoyannis statement that the "leaders of both communities must be allowed to work out a viable and equitable solution".

Each one shows where they are coming from and where they want to go.

The “Greeny on Tour” project has passed through the Lemar Road in Lefkosa and the streetlamps on the Sehit Gazeteci Hasan Tahsin Avenue were `greened up` with a long shiny greeny stem with leaves and blossoms.

The project – which is supported by thousands of people from around the world including the United States, Germany, Brazil, Scotland, the UK, Japan and Turkey, was launched in the TRNC by first Lady Oya Talat who is the President of the Cyrus Turkish Women’s Solidarity Council.

In an address at the event, Mrs Talat explained that the aim of the project which is supported by 20-thousand people in 35 countries – is raise awareness on the need to protect the environment, nature and world.

She said that greenys crocheted by hands of Turkish Cypriot women are taking part in a project which is supported by thousands of people throughout the world.

`Let’s protect nature, not to have just artificial plants in the future` the First Lady noted.

Greenys are artificial plants made out of green material – mainly wool – and crocheted by hand.

Greenys, the brainchild of German artist Yutta Saftien, are artificial plants that aim to raise awareness about the effects of global warming on the environment.

The project will be displayed in two shopping malls in Istanbul and its next destinations in Turkey include the cities of Ankara, İzmir, Antalya and Bursa.

Greenys are artificial plants made out of green material – mainly wool – and crocheted by hand.

Yutta created a small plant in the studio in 2002 and Greenys have since been placed in public spaces.

Passersby can take the crochet hook and the wool and let the Greeny grow.

Anyone, irrespective of culture, nationality, gender or age, can care for a Greeny.
