A LOCAL businessman has brought a little piece of history to his wines with his own label featuring the village of Luricina in Cyprus.
Ismail Veli, well known in the community for his lobbying work with Embargoed! introduced the ‘Valle Looretzena’ brand at his off licence store in Wormley in Hertfordshire last Saturday.
The name ‘Valle Looretzena’ is inspired by the Veli family’s Cypriot village and is produced in Chile in association with Concha Y Toro, one of Latin America’s biggest wine exporters.
Ismail, who is head of the family-run business Cathy’s Wines, likened the taste of their new label wine to those from his childhood village of Luricina, which is renowned for its great vines and which has a similar climate and terrain to the central valleys of Chile.
According to local Cypriot folklore, Luricina was founded by the Venetians who named it after a beautiful noble girl Lorenza. It helped the Veli family come up with a suitable Latin name for their own-brand wines, ‘Valle Looretzena’.
Ismail said, “We’ve had a fantastic response to the launch of our own brand wine. Fellow Cypriots agree that ‘Valle Looretzena’ contains a taste of Luricina, while our local customers are pleased to see Wormley on the map and are keen to support our venture – within 24 hours of the launch, many have already come back to place repeat orders!”
