[b]ROC’s taking over the EU presidency earlier than schedule

Postby Cem » Thu Sep 18, 2008 9:34 pm

Could ROC’s taking over the EU presidency earlier than the scheduled one, be of any help in solving the CyProb ?

From : http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Presidency ... esidencies

Presidency of the Council of the European Union is the responsibility for the functioning of the Council of the European Union which is rotated between European Union member states every six months. There is no single president but rather the task is undertaken by an entire national government, hence that state influences the direction of European Union policy during its term. Although it rotates every six months, since 2007 the current presidency has worked with the last and next one on a common political programme.

Functioning
The Presidency, which is sometimes informally called the EU Presidency, has as its primary responsibility to organize and chair all meetings of the Council. However, working out compromises capable of resolving difficulties is in practice also a primary responsibility. The post as President of the Council of the European Union is for each separate meeting held by the responsible government minister of the member state holding the Presidency.

Wouldn’t it be a wonderful opportunity to keep the CyProb as the hottest topic at the top of agenda ???

What if all meetings are organized here in Nicosia, Cyprus ??

At the moment the presidency holder is France and beginning in Jan –June 2009 the presidency is expected to pass on to Czech Republic (CR).

Now, what if EU decides, by unanimous vote, to take the presidency away from CR and hands it over to ROC in the expectation that it would precipitate the solution as well as a token of goodwill gesture to its member having a political problem.

Example:
In the same document, there is that statement :

Germany was due to succeed Austria in 2006 but stepped aside as general elections were scheduled for that period. Finland, as next in line, took their place. In the event, the German elections took place in 2005 due to a loss of confidence vote, but the re-arrangement remains.

So, unexpected switches and turns regarding the presidency is happening already and not impossible.

So, what if CR abdicates in favor of ROC ?

Wouldn’t it be very advantageous for ROC to host all the meetings here in Cyprus thus make her voice louder regarding the CyProb that way?

If we could organise a brew-up in Pissouri, I would agree with hosting all the meetings here!

Whether it would help or not, who knows.

I dont think Zan and VP are going to be very happy with their having to use stupid inverted commas in referring to the President nation of the EU . Can you imagine how stupid they will appear in stating , "" The """"""ROC""""""
and ""President "" of the """"EU"""" has today announced that the use of.... inverted commas will be banned for with in the entire EU !! The only exeption will be the "TRNC" which will continue to attract the inverted commas.

With the "RoC" at the head of the EU the Cyprus would be placed on hold, as of course they would be biased and one sided.

No problems we can use inverted commas but the fact that we do not recognize the GC "RoC" doesnt mean the we do not recognize the EU. Your time at the head of the EU will be a waste of time anyway you will not be able to do anything to make us agree to anything and the EU will see how biased you really are.
