Talat: Greek Cypriots Need Solution as Much as we do

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby CopperLine » Fri Sep 19, 2008 8:11 am

The Paphitis/Piratis record is stuck. Over and over and over it repeats. Supposing every word that you say is true, so what ? Turkey is not going to 'wake up' one morning and say, 'what fools we've been ! Paphitis/Piratis were right all along !'

Paphitis/Piratis are cold-blooded stubborn plodding dinosaurs amongst quick-witted, warm blooded, rapidly adapting mammals intent on negotiating.

Problem is, if you are NOT able to answer Paphitis’ very valid concern…

“What is in it for us?”

…which currently baffles the minds of over one million Greek Cypriots worldwide, calling them “dinosaurs” who incidentally are now extinct, may well have inadvertently answered their question.

No, GR, it is not that Paphitis/Piratis are GCs which is the issue. The issue is that the position that they represent is that of dinosaurs. Many/most GCs do not share their ways.

That plodding dinosaurs became extinct to be superceded by quick witted mammals was rather the point of the metaphor !

Kossovo was recognises SUBJECT TO THE INDIVIDUAL RIGHTS of each person of the minorities there. So be careful when bringing up Kossovo as an example, and that goes for all who bring it up. In Kossovo the Eu and NATO are there judging the state authorities on every step of the way. If Kossovo harbors any hopes of joining the EU and NATO it must prove it has met their standards.

That's very interesting. Thanks very much for calling me a dinosaur btw.

In Australia, there are over 200,000 GCs, and you would be hard pressed in finding any positive spin about these talks.

But, then again, in Australia we are kind of spoilt. We have complete freedom of movement, freedom of the press, democratic equality, and equal opportunity for all. This is exactly what we want Cyprus to have as well. And this is what you are trying to deny Cyprus.

So thanks for calling us dinosaurs. I know that your cagey response is to avoid answering my question. And that is because you have no answer.

In case you wish to prove me wrong, I will ask you again:

What is in it for us?

BTW, I wonder if anyone can help me? What do Cypriot Citizens have to do in order to obtain a Cypriot Voting Card? If we obtain a voting card, will it be possible to fly to Cyprus and vote in the Referendum?

Go to the Ciizens advise bureau and get yourself an ID. If you have an ID you'll be able to get a voting booklet.

Thanks DT.

If a referendum is called, I am thinking of going to Cyprus to voice my cocerns at the ballot box.
