The term "equality" is evidentally meaning different things to different people. The root of the argument in Cyprus can be said to be that little statement from "Animal Farm": Some people are more equal than others". Communal equality is going to be impossible to agree on. Individual equality is what has to be addressed and stressed. In short: what are the inalienable rights of each and every CYPRIOT to be? Community rights and equality demands are going to be a never-ending battle. If one wants a settlement, then the 'Greek' and 'Turkish' aspect of the problem nees to be eliminated. Maybe then, things can progress.

 Someone must’ve taken over the Teletubby’s account... he’s actually making sense now! :?

Hey GR! Are you willing to take out all the Greek references in your books and advertising and information books and add in an equal amount of TC ones????

You know how I feel about Greece & Turkey both being a nuisance to Cyprus so I'd happily remove all references to them and replace them with Cyprus/Cypriot.

Just wipe out history????????

Zan, I'm not saying that you should be ashamed of your Turkish roots, just as Greek Cypriots should not be afraid of their Hellenic roots, but if Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots are living in Cyprus, then their 'Cypriotness' needs to come first for the Cypriot national identity to prevail. This may sound harsh, but if those Greeks and Turks on the island refuse to acknowledge the fact that they are in a country seperate from Greece and Turkey, then perhaps they should return to Greece and Turkey, and let the Cypriots live in theirs. Cyprus should be for the Cypriots. Period.

What would happen to the statues of Makarios and Makarios celebrations utu???? Would the TCs not turning up for such events not upset the GCs or do we grin and bare it????

Sounds kind of like the Orange Order parades in Belfast, doesn't it? They demand their right to march through Catholic areas, while the Catholics don't want to see them because the Orange Order is a reminder od the partition of Ireland. In regards to Cyprus, those things would have to be worked out, Zan. Greek Cypriots proabably would not like seeing the Ataturk monuments and statues or celebrations attached to those...

UTU , I have been asking the "foreign motherland " lovers to go and join their respective ones for more than than 2 and half years now. What on earth do they see in these two foreign nations I would never understand.
We are far more advanced , civilised , industrious and decent that than the two put together . What is wrong with our nation of Cyprus in having its own identity , are we infants in need of being breast fed by foreign mothers ??

What Makarios celebrations?? Mate, just cause you carry out these 3rd world celebrations of false idols doesn't mean we do. I've never heard of a parade or march in honour of Makarios, have no idea when he was born or the date he died and have no idea what date is used as remembrance to him. What I do know is that on his memorial day a bunch of politicians and a few priests make a couple of speeches at his grave. The population has never taken part in any of this.

Think you're the only one with a makarios obsession.
