The flights are just a matter of Insurance. Confusion stops the insurance companies covering flights to Ercan. Planes that have no passengers to drop off in Turkey can just fly over Turkey and whilst in the air obtain a new flight number and insurance cover from Turkey and continue on its way.

That solved that queery then. Thanks Zan.

Glad to be of service!!! 8)

I should have added:

Thank you for flying Zan airlines an we hope you enjoyed your flight.

Oh. Was that you on the flight deck. Where did you earn your wings. The TAF?

Look out for your own ships there Zan

Direct flights will not be permitted unless a solution is found end of story. That article is full of crap.

George, normally, I would agree with you, but that point about the "Northern Cyprus" tourism advertisments and how they eventually stayed means that one can't take things for granted. And since the international commercial aviation body did - from what I understand - raise "no objections in principle" to aircraft using Tymbou/Ercan, that means the only thing stopping direct flights at the current time are the governments of the countries that have expressed interest in doing such flights. The upcoming court case in the UK - if it goes the way of the northern administration - may provide that green light, so let's not speak in absolutes just yet.

I have spoken to friends at Cyprus Turkish Airlines and they're not pushing the matter because of legal and political issues. Both CTA and Cyprus Airways are debt ridden and over subscribed with personel (yes this is a Cyprus thing). I have flown non stop between Heathrow and Ercan in 1982 on a Turkish Airlines DC10. Flights do get through, live with it!

That was a year before the 1983 UDI of the northern administration. Has there been - apart from that Azerbaijan charter jet several months ago - many (or any) other direct flights to and from non-Turkish destinations?

IATA classifies Tymbou/Ercan as an international airport (IATA code ECN), interestingly enough.
