XL

Well another airline went bump yesterday and there are predictions that more will follow. XL regularly flew into Cyprus so it's a little blow to tourism to the island.

I hope another carrier adds Cyprus to their list of destinations soon because their are not too many for us Brits to choose from.

Mrs. Cyprusgrump flew out on Monarch this morning – the flight was delayed three hours because the aircraft was ferrying around XL customers all day…

The one thing I can’t understand from this XL debacle is the necessity to charter spare aircraft to rescue their customers…?

XL clearly had aircraft in the right place, with crews ready to go and bring the passengers home… Why doesn’t the CAA ‘rescue plan’ involve retaining the services of the aircraft (leased anyway) and crews for say two weeks after the business goes bust?

Okay, so service from the trolley dollies might not be perfect on their last flight but at least they would have had two weeks more employment than their office-based colleagues… :?

So, who are the carriers now then to Cyprus? (to and from UK)

I know of Easyjet, Monarch, Thomsonfly and that's it. Oh, sorry and Cyprus Airways!

No, I don't understand that and especially if everything was in place to take people home

Travelled with Austrian Airlines (LHR-LCA) a couple of years ago with a 2-3 hour stopover in Vienna. Very pleasant flights.

Several other airlines with stopovers available from GB including Alitalia - did I say Alitalia? oops sorry!
