We should foster good relations with like-minded nations and not be afraid to admit to ties-that-bind.

I agree with Nikitas that Cyprus is Independent, hence does not need guarantees from anyone as to its right to exist and defend itself from expansionist nations.

Instead those expansionist nations threatening sovereignties should be punished by united organisations like the EU & UN (basically US) and Russia (due to its might) with the whole gamut of weapons available (economic sanctions upwards).

The Treaty of Guarantee over Cyprus was like a slip of paper allowing the bully to do as it liked .... and it did.

Who in their right minds, knowing the nature of the Turk would have handed over such a right to them .... oh yeah! The UK.

The UK is singularly responsible for getting us in this mess with Turkey by handing them a permit, and it should not get off Scot free ....

Neither!

No one will defend someone else's territory. If we cannot defend ourselves we are buggered. THis demilitarisation trip some people are on is nonsense. Cyprus should have the means to sink any ship and drop any plane that violates its territory. If it does not then it is not an independent country. An island nation having an army, but not an air force or navy is a joke, and we have been indulging in this joke since the creation of the national guard back in the 60s. The NG is an army, the last thing we need as an island nation.

Demilitarisation is a joke. It is a policy derived to render us defenceless against any future aggressor. A strong military is an important and fundamental element of any nation. Even Switzerland, a non aligned nation has a highly capable and well organised military.

Oracle,
The 'Bash-the-U.K.' line is getting a bit long - in the tooth, that is! Both Greece & Turkey are responsible for using Cyprus as a battlegraound as well as a pawn in their games.

Neither Greece nor Russia should be guarantors. The British Commonwealth would be a much better guarantor than the E.U. could ever be.Cyprus has been a British Commonwealth member state far longer than it has been a European Union member state.

The UK made it official they could have a say in Cyprus' future .....

BTW ... don't generalise. It's not UK-bashing. It's ONE point about the Constitution.

Britain can go and get phucked along with Turkey. Britain has done nothing for Cyprus and the monarch is a wanted criminal and needs to pay her debt to Cypriot society! :)

Queen Elizabeth must be charged with the murder of Pallikaridi. :)

words of a 19 year old.

"I know you will sentence me to death, but whatever I did, I did as a Cypriot who wants his liberty"
Evagoras Pallikarides, speaking during his trial where he was sentenced to death for the possession of a non working firearm

My tolerance of wankers like you is at an all time low this evening.

Your urgent attention is required here.

http://www.cyprus-forum.com/viewtopic.php?t=19791

And don't forget to stick the Queen, and CW right up your arse.

The CW, Britain, Turkey and Greece have no say on Cypriot internal matters.

What a wanker!
