TC anti-occupation graffiti artists arrested

Postby Tim Drayton » Wed Sep 10, 2008 11:59 am

The Yeni Düzen newspaper reports that four Turkish Cypriot youths were arrested at 0400 on 8 September after being caught red-handed writing the slogan “Out with the occupying Turkish Army” on a wall. Police inspector Oral Ordu has announced that they have detained the parties guilty of the offences of writing comments slandering the person of the Security Forces Command and causing wilful damage on various public and private buildings in August and September 2008.
The youths will appear in court on Thursday (tomorrow).

Thanks Tim. Very interesting. Apart from the lack of freedom of expression, (I hate graffiti btw) it shows publicly what the people of Northern Cyprus think.

There is a vast range of views, clearly. I have personally met people who echo Zan's thoughts, and those who are of the Kikapu school.

Thank you Tim for this.

Zan and VP and the likes eat your heart out. Not all TCs you claim want the army present.

I fear they may get more than a slap on the wrist. this is in the face of Turkey who claims that they are there at the request of ALL TCs.

Talat himself is on record in the dark and distant past as having described the Turkish army as an occupying force.
