Hi Grump

I ws referring to companies who wish to operate as estate agents in Cyprus.

Basically anyone who earns commission from the sale of property must be a registered Estae Agent or an employee of one.

I suppose you could...

But then how about all the overseas agents that introduce clients to developers in Cyprus...? how could they be controlled...?

Unfortunately, greedy developers would put a stop to overseas agents as they would probably offer a deal if the purchaser did the deal behind the agents back as they are not in cyprus.

I understand that a group of licenced agents put pressure on the government to close Buysell.

Like Grump I have heard good things about Buysell and from any contact I've had they were professional. I believe they got 'around' the lack of licence by stating they were simply marketing property and charging a fee for this marketing, not as sale commission. They are good at marketing.

I have also had bad experiences with 'licenced' agents. It is about time the monopoly ended with the more unscrupulous agents. Give them more competition that is controlled.

Surely a company as large as buy-sell should get licensed rather than working on the margins of legality as "marketers".

So if if Buysell get around the licensing thing by stating they were marketing a property and charging a fee for this marketing, then the sale is not a sale, therefore commission does not apply....Fantastic Marketing!

except that they charge between 8% and 10% of the asking price(not the selling price)
