I'm visiting cyprus sept 10th - sept 16th

Postby ken87 » Thu Sep 04, 2008 1:01 pm

Hey, im new in this forum. Cyprus is a great place and I respect the people as well. Friendly people too.

I would like to know where are the best places to go around cyprus such as Nicosia, Paphos, Larnaca etc because I am travelling around Cyprus from the 10th Sept - 16th Sept and I would love to seek some advice from people. Entertainment, Buildings, Restaurants, Beaches, Parks, Food, anything!

Thanks!

Hi Ken

Welcome; the Forum gets a bit rough at times; many members have deep and sincerely felt views which do not always co-incide with those of other members - but they are all good at heart :-)

It really depends what you are looking for on your holiday; Nicosia is best for shopping, Limassol is a nice combination of shops/clubs and tourism. The east coast probably has the best beaches.

The Troodos 'Mountains' offers wil offer a different view of the island; you an alwasy cross the reen Line to visit the northern part of the island, but of course Pafos is the best place to be!

We are not very good on Parks and Zoos or even fine buildings. try not to eat in the tourist areas all the time, get out to the villages and see real Cypriot hospitality.

You cant take pictures if you go through the British areas because they are military installations. You should be fine anywhere else though, I usually take loads of snaps. Obviously if you're taking pictures of people or their property then you should ask their permission.

There is lots of fun stuff to do in Cyprus, it just depends what you're interested in. I like the 'Tombs of the Kings' in Paphos and the archaeological site at Kourion:

Some of the older villagers do not like having their picture taken; if you want to take a snap of the goat lady, ask her first.

Pah! Paphos is not the best.
Larnaca sea front is great. Ayia Napa harbour area is great for sitting for a drink and people watching. Paralimni is lovely too.

Pah ! Limassol wins hands down, keep out of the tourist area and you are in a cosmopolitan town, with good eateries, cafes, decent shops and a good pub football team.

Of course each one of us likes different things.

Regarding architecture, I would recommend the walled city of Nicosia and of Famagusta, the Unesco World heritage painted churches in Troodos and ancient Paphos. Also there are many picturesque villages mostly in Troodos (eg Fikardou, Kato Drys village, old Kakopetria, Krasohoria of Limassol), but also in Laona area near Akamas, and elsewhere. There are pretty old churches in many locations, castles and other buildings around Cyprus.

For walking I would recommend Paphos forest, Troodos forest, Akamas peninsula.

I prefer the beaches in Protaras and Ayia Napa.

For nature related info you can check my website if you like.

I hope you enjoy Cyprus.

Thanks guys! I appreciate your recommendations! Is there like a football league match I can go to and watch. Who's the most popular football club to watch?
