i can't see that the tc community will ever accept the roc flag as their own. i think a new united cyprus flag should be designed. here they think flags are very important. when we first flew our union jack, someone called the police, we were told to take it down.we refused. went to the topman at kyrenia police station and they agreed that it could stay. we as brits cannot fly the turkish flag without a licence. we cannot fly the roc flag full stop. if we fly the e.u. flag we will be arrested! so as you can see flags are a big issue.
as for national anthem i think it should be in greek and turkish, maybe 2 sentances each. that way both sides would learn some of each others language and show a unity between the two communities.

Must be so awful living in a place which inhibits free speech and expression! You have my sincere sympathies. :)

English could also be the main official language, which could also assist in veering away from Hellenic and Ottoman nationalism and adopting a Cypriot nationalism which is identifiable to all Cypriots. This will close the divide and chasm over time.

Why not make it in Russian or Chinese then? Why not in Persian, like the Pakistanis?

Probably the best is what they have in Spain. No words at all.

Just expressing a thought Piratis.

English would certainly be a lot better than Turkish now wouldn't it? Turkish is a most ugly language!

And adopting English as the main language would have it's advantages as far as business and the EU are concerned.

Could not think of anything worse than a half Greek and half Turkish national anthem.

And an anthem with no words is just so uninspiring.

Thats funny!

Everytime I hear Turkish, I can not help but visualise that the person speaking it has a clothes peg permanently attached to their nose!

The Cypriot national anthem should be in all 3 languages - Cypriot Greek,Cypriot Turkish,& English. The Constitution of Cyprus needs to be amended to include English as Cyprus' third official language.

There's nothing wrong with either the Cypriot flag or the Coat-of-Arms.What has been bandied about as a proposed flag of a united Cyprus looks bloody ugly.

I have to admit i dont like the RoC flag purely from a design perspective, the olive branches are ok but having a map of your country on your flag screams lack of creativity, i cant think of any other nation that has a map of the country on their flag, perhaps only Libya has a less creative flag. Perhaps a new flag can be developed and a new national anthem IF these talks get any results.

Al,
The Korean Unification flag has a map of Korea as it was prior to 1910.The flags of Christmas Island (Indian Ocean) & the Chatham Islands also have maps on them as well.

I like the design of the Cypriot flag.
