Feel free to talk about anything that you want.

Tolstoy and Hemingway do it for me. Maybe its the aspiring 'adventurer and lover' which made me read them over and over again.

I was in fact lucky enough to have been bought a collection of his entire works, and unlucky enough to have it turn to mush when the workshop was flooded out

His Children's stories are not much liked by children from what I have experienced/heard. So you haven't actually read any of his works.I found "The Picture of Dorian Gray" dull and witless and attempted a few of this other novels but finished no others. He was good at the one liners but that does not make a "World's greatest writer". A biography I read on him went some way to make him an interesting character though.

As a playwright he wasn't a touch on Noel Coward.

On the other hand Roald Dahl is amazing for both adults and children and I have read all his short stories and most of the Children's books. All were incredible adventures and real page turners.

 what?? I studied Wilde at school and through the years have read MOST of his works. Dorian Gray - I agree - rather average but each to their own - hence my preference for his short stories and the plays!! Have YOU actually read any of his works apart from his one and only novel?

As I said, I read his one and only novel (dull) and employed a Wilde-ism which I see was not as cryptic as it could have been in today's easy-google world which helps to spot such amateurish trickery. I attempted various prose/poems along the years, but stuck with none apart from a few shorter works and Children's stories. However Richard Ellmann's biography warmed me to the man.
