How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Bananiot wrote:No DT, my plan is to shower the Turkish Cypriots with good will, even in the face of adversity. We want them on the side of Cyprus. Many of them make thier living in the south and some sick nationalist are calling for the closing of all gates. They want to throw the Turkish Cypriots in the warm embrace of mother Turkey again. This is bloody treason DT and by the way, are you also calling for the closing of all gates? What is your position on this?

My position on this bananiot is to initiate goodwill with reciprocation expected. If the goodwill is not returned then we should stop there. The tc's need to realise that the turkish army is standing in the way of both communities.

If Limnitis is not opened so as to enable this cut off community to be able to rejoin the island then the same should be done for the tc community. The message should be clear, "we've offered these measures and expect the goodwill returned, if it is not then complain to your protectors."

And that is why I asked many times for a TC to explain to me what political equality means and I have yet to get a clear response.

It's ok humanist, I do it too most of the time. :(

I agree with your post above though. I just don't know how they're going to find a solution thats going to make everyone happy? :?

Specially since they've left so many open wounds to fester for all these years and seeing that theres not 1 "official" Cyprus story that we can trust, we end up taking sides and feeling "wronged" by the other all the time.

I don't want land or anything from the GCs, I just want the GC government to apologise for what they did and vice versa. By doing so I would feel more confident that history wouldn't repeat itself and that lessons were learned.

Unfortunately the stance most of us take make us distrust eachother even more. :(

T_C,

Back in March when Christofias and Talat met for the first time right after the election to discuss a settlement, Christofias acknowledged that wrongs were done to the TC's. To date, I have not heard Talat saying the same thing about wrongs done to the GC's by the TC's. Therefore, you are not accurate with your above statement. Perhaps you did not know what Christofias did. Naturally, do not expect anymore apologies to come from him, until Talat does the same in return. It is only fair, don't you think.??

Acknowledgement of 'wrongs' does not make an 'apology' Kiks.

Thats not what we're talking about Deniz. We're talking about acknowledgement of which you found Christofias's inadequate.

Thats right halil, you stick to your peace festivals and peace signs...Anytime someone asks for some goodwill from your side though and some practical steps forward then its the same old story.

How long do you think you can enjoy your peace when talat cannot even take a simple action as opening a crossing for one day for a religious day?

I'll forget this one as well, anytime TC's are allowed to cross but GC's are stopped I'll ignore it and go to ELeftheria Sq singing for peace.

DT,
Today is the World Peace Day.

The Day provides an opportunity for individuals, organizations and nations to create practical acts of Peace on a shared date.

Various events are being held in the Northern Cyprus by non-governmental organizations and youth branches of political parties to mark the day.

As the day is being marked with just two days before the launch of the comprehensive negotiations in Cyprus, civil society organizations from the two sides have expressed their support to the negotiations process and peace in Cyprus.

The Cyprus Peace Society carried banners at several junctions in the Northern Nicosi calling for support to a solution in Cyprus.

Members of the Cyprus Turkish Journalists’ Union planted 27 saplings at its headquarters in North Nicosia.

The 27 saplings represent member countries of the EU.

President Mehmet Ali Talat, Prime Minister Ferdi Sabit Soyer, Minister of National Education and Culture Canan Oztoprak were among those participating in the event.

Officials from Dev-Is and PEO unions also planted saplings at the event.
Tonight, the Cyprus Peace Platform will hold an event in front of the Ledra Palace Hotel under the slogan ‘Light a Candle for Peace - Common Struggle for a United Cyprus’.

And, the Cyprus Turkish Peace Association has organized a rally for tonight under the title of ‘Call for Peace’.

The rally at the Inönü Square in the city centre will start at 8 o’clock.

The rally will be addressed by officials from the Cyprus Turkish Peace Association and Peace Society from South Cyprus.

Yeni Türkü, a famous Turkish group, the SOS group, Yıltan Taşçı and Adamos Catsantonis will sing songs calling for peace during the rally.
