Close All Crossings!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

The only people you can call with certainty enemies of Cyprus are those that voted for the Anan Plan.

As for my position on the closure of the ceasefire line I have made it clear in a previous post which you will find below.

My position on this bananiot is to initiate goodwill with reciprocation expected. If the goodwill is not returned then we should stop there. The tc's need to realise that the turkish army is standing in the way of both communities.

If Limnitis is not opened so as to enable this cut off community to be able to rejoin the island then the same should be done for the tc community. The message should be clear, "we've offered these measures and expect the goodwill returned, if it is not then complain to your protectors."

I find myself agreeing with DT. Lets get rid of 'double-standards' from both sides, where they exist. This has been the bone of contention for many years.

Get rid of double standards, that is fine, but the question still begs an answer. Should we close all crossings as the title of this thread suggests?

DT, you are now saying that 100 000 Greek Cypriots (and their families) that voted for solution back in 2004 are traitors, including Glafkos Clerides.

Just hang on a minute Bananiot. Your signature says there are only options, not solutions, therefore the 100,000 GC's voted for one of the options (YES or NO) and not for a solution, correct.??

Please do not ask me to play with words Kikapu. My question is clear. Is it an option to close all gates on account of what happened with Limnitis?

It is an option to close all gates on account of all lack of good will on Turkey's part, including Limnitis.

The opening of the gates has only served to undermine our negotiating power.

Thus, we appear to the outside world that we are the side that wants opening of as many gates as possible but we hastily close all gates when the other side backs down on the operning of one gate. Not on your life Paphitis, we have more sense than this.

No, but if I were the GC's, I would definitely close any crossing that is only used as a "One-way" traffic such as Limnitis and not a "Two-Way" traffic as the term "CROSSING" is intended to mean.!

What do you think.?

It is too late now! The damage has been done.

The gates should not have opened to begin with, and closing them is an option where the cost of doing so needs to be analysed very carefully. It is a gamble.

You would need to weigh up the effect of closing the gates on the "trnc" economy with any possible world condemnation. Basically, our politicians stuffed up big time, because by opening the gates, we have removed one of the motives that the TCs had for a negotiated settlement. Any more concessions or aid to the "trnc" will only result in the TCs not wanting a solution at all.

It is stupid how Cypriot Governments put themselves in such ridiculous positions. IMHO

Limnitis has never been an open gate Kikapu. I think it may be the next to open. The furore that arose was the refusal to allow pilgrims to cross it to go to nearby Morphou, when all the signals sent were that the granting of permission was just a formality.

I reckon it was a message to Talat that the army still holds the aces and making it difficult for Talat a couple of days before the talks were scheduled to start is like playing the generals' game.
