McCain makes a dreadful error of judjement

Postby miltiades » Sat Aug 30, 2008 8:32 am

Senator John McCain astonished the political world selecting Sarah Palin, Who ?? governor of Alaska with almost no foreign policy experience, as his running mate !!

""Ms. Palin, 44, a social conservative, former union member and mother of five who has been governor for two years, was on none of the widely discussed McCain campaign short lists for vice president. In selecting her, Mr. McCain reached far outside the Washington Beltway in an election year in which the Democratic presidential candidate, Senator Barack Obama, is running on a platform of change.""

Within moments, Ms. Palin made an explicit appeal to the disappointed supporters of Senator Hillary Clinton by praising not only Mrs. Clinton but also the only other woman in American history who has been on a presidential ticket, Geraldine A. Ferraro, Walter F. Mondale’s Democratic running mate in 1984.

“Hillary left 18 million cracks in the highest, hardest glass ceiling in America, but it turns out the women of America aren’t finished yet, and we can shatter that glass ceiling once and for all,” Ms. Palin said to huge applause.

Mr. McCain’s pick, Ms. Palin, who opposes abortion,( she is the mother of 5 ) played especially well among evangelicals and other social conservatives, who have always viewed Mr. McCain warily and who have been jittery in recent weeks because of reports that Mr. McCain was considering naming a running mate who favors abortion rights.

Democrats and at least some shocked Republicans questioned the judgment of Mr. McCain, who has said repeatedly on the campaign trail that his running mate should have the qualifications to immediately step into the role of commander in chief.
Could this be the turning point when Americans use their brain and make the right choice irrespective of colour . I dread to think that if McCain is elected at the ripe age of 72 should the unexpected happen , a 44 year old mother of 5 with absolutely no experience in foreign affairs what so ever will become the commander in chief of the worlds no one superpower !!!

My own conclusion on the matter is that McCain has received some lousy advice on his choice of running mate .

Nothing can be unexpected after the age of 72 my dear friend.!

Personally, it was a BAD choice for the Republicans, which I'm happy about. The thinking behind such silly choice by McCain was, that all women have equal status in politics, therefore if Hillary's women supporters will not get Hillary as a VP with the Democrats, they will vote for another women in the same position, with the Republicans. I guess McCain thinks that women are just sheep and will follow another women no matter what. It did not work for the Mondale/Ferraro ticket in 1984 and it will not work this time. I even expect McCain to lose some intelligent Republican women voters after his selection of Palin.

Agree here with you Kikapu ,the likelyhood of " the unexpected event" occuring is rather high since if elected he will still be president at age 76 , he also has skin cancer or a history of skin cancer .To make such a blatantly unwise choice has left me stunned . Obviously as you state above , consideration was given to women voters and hoping to cash in on
Hilarys popularity with women voters.
I still think McCain will be the next President given the fact that the lower white classes will most definitely react against a black president and more so one that has Husein as his second name .
The democrats would have had a much better chance with Hilary .
Obama is indeed a very capable and also a charismatic contender , given his age too I believe he would make a very good president .

Wow Miltiades !!, if that happens, YOU being such a great admirer of everything the Yanks do, you'll probably grow a beard.

Wouldn't it be great if it topped out that the ghost of Saddam has come back to haunt 'em ?.

I'm off down the Mosque mate, reckon you should do the same just to be on the safe side.

Judging by the past posts of Miltiades [and I've read quite a few] he has a very strong aversion to Muslims, it would be poetic justice [for him] if a man with the name of Hussein was at the helm of his beloved U.S.A.

Maybe the Muslims have a hidden power that the west doesn't know about, we like to light candles, they like to pray.

The mystic powers of prayer have long been recognized as a powerful source of energy, thinking about it, maybe we should ALL grow beards, saving YOUR presence of course, you could always wear a false one and dress as a man, it HAS worked in the opposite direction when the Yanks were hot on the tail of their "Deck of Cards" members.

I could just imagine Miltiades shuffling along behind his beard mumbling his devotions to the new President.

As a principle I do not usually respond to light hearted silly little boy comments , you however have made an accusation about me that you ought to retract. """"he has a very strong aversion to Muslims "
My aversion is directed against those that corrupt their own false beliefs and commit inhumane acts in the name of their false God.
Listen to me boy and pay attention. You are too clever for your boots , try and relax and don't play stupid all the time because it gets rather boring .

Oh Lighten up Miltiades for Christ's sake, life is far too short for serious discussions that will not make any difference to any of us.

Do you REALLY think you KNOW something ?.
