My nan.
She died a few weeks ago on 08.08.08.
I feel so sad that I didn't get to see her before she passed away.
I haven't been to Cyprus since last year, kinda feel guilty that I didn't do more to go and see her. It's so unfair.
My grandparents practically raised me, we lived with them till I was 9 so we were really close. Specially me and my nan. She was my best friend and loved me more than anyone in the world. I just don't feel the same person and the world is such a horrible place without them.
I was going to wait till I got back from Cyprus to open a thread about my nan because I wanted to show pictures but I'm really sad so I couldn't resist.
My nan was a Cypriot LEGEND in her time. Seriously. She was born in 1923, and grew up in the heart of Nicosia (Sarayonu). Her father was a chef and mother a religious 'wise woman' whom people would come to for advice. They were a well known and respected Turkish family in Nicosia. In those days people mixed with their social class so my nans family knew all the GCs of higher class in Nicosia.
Then again EVERYONE who was ANYONE knew who my nan was in Nicosia. She was so so sooooo beautiful, elegant and SO full of grace. She was just divine. Though her mother was religious she didn't force it onto my nan, she was the most perfect Cypriot. The epitome of one! She had the kind of class and style only known in Cypriots. (Cypriots'll know what I mean ). I hear theres even songs written about my nan somewhere out there!!! I couldn't possibly do her legacy justice on here, if only you knew her...
My nans family wasn't too happy when she chose my grandfather to marry. My grandad was a Karpasian who grew up with no shoes or anything. I wouldn't expect anything less from my nan though, who was the nicest, most genuine person EVER. They were so in love, people still talk about them to this day saying love like that doesn't exist anymore.
They had a huge wedding that lasted for days on end which was attended by so many guests from both communities. By my grandads own admission most of the people there came to see my nan as a bride . And my gran DID NOT dissapoint. She looked like a Cypriot Queen, literally, with a crown full of diamonds to match! My grandad would cry when he'd tell me of their wedding...
I feel so sad that these special people are gone forever
