Should the UN Take a Back-Seat to the EU?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Should the UN Take a Back-Seat to the EU?

Postby Oracle » Fri Aug 29, 2008 8:54 pm

How effective has the UN been in solving the Cyprus Problem?

After 34 years the UN has proved ineffective in removing the invaders, despite countless Resolution breaches by Turkey.

Shouldn't we now relegate it to secondary status over our closer to home EU partners?

Is the fact that the UN is based in the US, influencing decision making?

With such a potential bias base, and knowing the detrimental influence of the US in Cyprus Politics, should we continue to put so much trust in the UN?

What has the UN delivered after over 3 decades?

If the Annan plan wasn't proof enough of its Bias ... what more proof do we need that it does not have the best interests of GCs at heart, but Turkey?

Time to ditch the UN as a Negotiating partner and bring in the EU!

The Usless Nations (UN) is a pile of crap. Its an institution that is funded by the yanks to print licences for the yanks to go into any country it wants to when IT wants to.

The UN has done nothing for Cyp, because thats how the yanks like it. the Ankara Plan was (as I have said before) designed by the Yanks, written by the British to satify Turkish demands, all at the expense of the GCs.

I say, bring in the EU or even the god damn Russians, I am sure they can do a better job.

Said my piece now i'll go.

I agree with my learned compatriots above. The UN has proven to be inneffective, however the EU has been unsupoortive also. It is only now that they are excerting minimal pressure upon Turkey. The fact the they began negotiations with Turkey for its membership whilst it violates the human rights of EU citizens, proves that they too are an institution set up by the British to meet British interests.

The oil is the only saviour for CY :)

Before you put all your eggs in the EU basket, just remind me, did the EU not give its FULL backing to the A-Plan?

Or was the UN twisting their arm?

Cyprus was not a member of the EU during the Annan plan proposal, so why bring it up as of consequence? And that youtube is very old news

It seems to be of paramount interest to Turkey to isolate us from the EU ... so thank you for confirming the insecurity you feel should we tell you all to bugger off from deciding what is best for us.

We have elected President Christofias on the basis of his EU experience and strength.

So why is Turkey refusing to allow us to negotiate as Cyprus-EU? Is it afraid that would be a fairer scenario?

Why is Turkey trying to keep us small and isolated? We are part of the bigger EU whole.

I still say the EU has to be at the negotiating table for all future talks with Turkey.

If not, why not?

Oracle,
The British Commonwealth would be better off in sorting out the Cyprus problem,as all member states of the British Commonwealth have made it clear to Turkey that their occupation of northern Cyprus is illegal - PURE & SIMPLE!
