‘We’ll sue everyone using our properties’
By Staff Reporter

A NEWLY created council said yesterday it would launch legal procedures against all usurpers of Greek Cypriot properties in the occupied north.

The Council for the Protection of Civil Rights (SPAD), as the group called itself, urged all those whose properties were being held to join the group, which has been registered as a company, and support its efforts.

The council said it would launch legal procedures against anyone who violated the rights of the country’s citizens.

“SPAD aims in seeking recourse in all courts and legally prosecuting all usurpers of properties in the occupied areas of the Republic of Cyprus,” the group said.

The council urged citizens who had information regarding the seizure of their property by foreigners to inform the group, which would assist them in starting legal procedures.

“Apart from that, SPAD will protect the civil rights of all citizens of the Republic of Cyprus, independent of ethnic background.”

At the same time, SPAD would inform foreigners about the consequences of buying Greek Cypriot properties in the north and the risk they run in being convicted and forced to pay compensation.

“They should also know that Cypriot courts are European and any decision taken by them applies in the 25 EU member-states,” the group said.

SPAD planned to become active in the European Parliament and the parliaments of individual member states, in providing information on the matter.

“Paid advertisements in the foreign press are a means of promoting our rights and must be used despite the high costs,” the group said.

turkcyp
But having said that it is the cases like this that freaks TCs out and makes them trust GCs less, and destroy the air of mutual understanding that was finally started to develop in Cyprus. That is all I was trying to say.

You are joking turkcyp; arent you :?: :?: :?:

I've copied Brother's paste from earlier today for you:

Rehn takes stand against refugees' legal moves

Don't go to court

By Alex Efthyvoulos

VISITING EU Expansion Commissioner Olli Rehn took a stand yesterday against the escalating numbers of court actions by Greek Cypriot refugees trying get back their properties in the occupied north.

This tended to increase tension on the island, he said.

Rehn's involvement in the issue, during his press conference yesterday evening, capped stormy developments over the property issue that had dominated political developments in recent days.

These resulted in flaming rows, not only between the Cyprus government and Turkey and the breakaway state in the north, but also between the Greek Cypriot pro-government and opposition political parties that disagreed on the wisdom of the resort to court action by the refugees over the property issue.

Rehn's summation of the situation was that the developments linked to "the issue of property proves the urgency of a political settlement."

Expanding on this, he said that "a revised Annan Plan will have property rights at its core. The current situation increases tension on the island and I find it difficult to support civil criminal law on an issue that is a political matter.''
Different stand

Replying to an earlier question during his news conference, Rehn said that the EU wants the decisions of its Human Rights Court to be respected. He said this in connection with yesterday's decision by the Rights Court that asked Turkey to try Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan again, because his previous trial resulting in his life imprisonment had been unfair.

Yet, when asked why he did not demand equal respect for the decisions of the Rights Court that supported the right of the refugees to return and to regain their properties in the occupied north, Rehn, took a different stand.

He said the Cyprus decisions of the Rights Court were not enforceable "because of the political situation and division of the island," and that consequently it was necessary to concentrate on a compromise settlement.

"The Annan Plan was worked out and we know its fate. My belief is that we all have to really search for a solution, to be willing to compromise so that we can have a revised and amended and improved plan which could be acceptable to all parties and prove the way for the reunification of the island," he said.

And who cares what Olli Rehn says on this issue?
He is the commissioner for enlargment. Is it his business what we do with our properties and our lawfull rights regarding them? He can only speak about his own property.

Aziz Kent, says that he has a title deed from the Republic of Cyprus and that he is getting ready to open suit in England against the Cyprus government
Under the banner headline I challenge you, Turkish Cypriot daily VATAN newspaper (11.05.05) reports that Mr Aziz Kent (John Aziz), tourist agent and owner of the Celebrity Hotel, who is one of the four persons for whom arrest warrants were issued from the Republic of Cyprus, reacted strongly to this development saying that he is getting ready to open a case in England.
Mr Kent supports that he has a title deed from the Department of Land and Surveys of the Republic of Cyprus. The paper publishes a certificate of the Registration of immovable Property which was issued by the Republic of Cyprus in the name of Aziz Mehmet in 1971.

As the paper writes, a warrant was issued for Mr Kent due to a complaint that he was occupying a 27-donums Greek Cypriot land in occupied Lapithos village and that his hotel under the name Semiramis is inside this land.

In a statement he made to the VATAN newspaper, Mr Kent denied the Greek Cypriots claims, as he said and noted that he will give an international legal battle against the Republic of Cyprus for its lies and added that he will prove this with a law suit that he will file in England. He also said that he will cross to south Cyprus and in case he is arrested due to the arrest warrant, he will made known to the whole world the lies of the Greek Cypriot section with the document he has in his hands.

Mr Kent, who owns the Celebrity Hotel, stated that the construction permission and the title deed were given to him before 1974, in 1971, and noted that this was the first Turkish hotels that were built in Cyprus. He also showed to the paper the title deed, which is under the name Aziz Mehmet that Mr Kent, used before.

Mr Kent stated that he will give all the legal battle needed against this ugly game, and noted that the motherland and the TRNC must help him in this. Mr Kent stated that he challenges the Greek Cypriots to come to England and to prove their case in a law suit that he will open there for this issue.

As the paper writes, Mr Kent is going to England in the next days to start taking initiatives on the issue.

***************

Hmmm so Asiz Kent is a "VATAN" ideology guy

There was a complain for:
occupying a 27-donums Greek Cypriot land in occupied Lapithos village

Any possibility that he deliberately mixes up the case of his hotels with the case of the 27 other donums he grabbed???
