Paliometoxo,
It is not only Turkey that should butt out of Cyprus' affairs, but Greece as well. They're foreign countries anyway.

Cyprus is better off under British protection,as Cyprus is part of the British Commonwealth anyway.

Britain failed to protect Cyprus in 1974, so don't you think that claim rings a little hollow?

I think that I have written this before, but in 1974 Britain was in the grip of an economic crisis (winter of discontent), IRA bombers were setting off bombs in London, the British Army had it's hands full in Northern Ireland, and the thought of sending in troops to bale out Makarios, who in the Brits eyes had been responsible for the murder of many of their soldiers not long before, was not a vote winner. Besides, anyone who remembers the 1970s will know that coups in former colonies were almost a weekly event.

I'm sure that the GC coupists who started all this would have had this in their mind when they started the whole 74 business.

I think you mean over 34 years later.

Assuming this to be so, exactly what do you think Britain could realistically do to make Turkey leave Cyprus?
