VROMIKO TOIXOS

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby Bananiot » Tue Aug 26, 2008 11:27 am

By the way, there is another song of Georgiades I like a lot. Its titled "Pagkosmios Politis". I like it because it sends fantastic messages of peace, solidarity and friendship.

Thanks for your feedback kafenes. I know nothing about music so my opinion does not amount to much in this respect. I thought it was a nice song because it reaches beyong the stereotype Greek-Turkish animosity and calls for peaceful coexistence of the two people. About Hadjiyiannis (I had him as a pupil at Dasoupolis Lyceum) I find the music he makes now totally unpalatable, granted his immence talent. His songs seem to be only for one use and people do not even know their titles. I am afraid he is served by music rather than serve music. He has chosen the wrong path, I feel. This will make him very rich but not great.

I have worked with Hadjiyannis in the past. He is a very versatile musician and I am sure he will mature in the correct path.

Well, atleast you know who Elvis is, or else I was going to start getting worried about you.!

You may be surprise to know Bananiot, that Bruce Lee is just as well known as Elvis, if not more, in some corners of the world.!

Bruce Lee is dead and now is considered to being a legend.

Elvis on the other hand, is still "alive".!!

As for your question regarding the song for the National Anthem, I will have to agree with Magnus in what he wrote.

Magnus wrote:I think this song is a terrible choice for a national anthem for the following reasons:

1. Hadjiyiannis sings like a girl and couldn't hold a tune in a bucket.

2. It's really quite dull. National anthems should be rousing. How is this crap supposed to inspire the football team, let alone the whole population or the army?

3. It's not patriotic as such, just a load of whining about some dude who wants to be 'friends' with the Turks but 'they' wont let him.

4. It makes Cypriots out to be a bunch of sulkers and victims instead of emphasising good character points.

5. The national anthem should represent things that all the people value. Not everybody wants to be 'friend and kardash' with the Turks. Some people just want to get on with their lives and have nothing to do with them.

First of all, it was all "Greek" to me, therefore I did not understand a word of it, so I don't know how you are going to get some of the TC's who are Racist against GC's to accept it. They don't even want Greek to be spoken around their kids let alone stand attention to a Greek sang National Anthem.!

Since I did not understand the words, it did not mean that it was a bad song. I liked the melody and the sad tone to the song, as most Greek and Turkish sad songs sounds like. I feel like sulking my sorrows in my Ouzo/Raki when I hear a song like this.!

I'm waiting for the National Anthem that Miltiades started over a year ago. Lets hear his one and make some comparison.!

Miltiades, where are you and your new National Anthem song for the "New Cyprus".??

With all my respect Bananiot .... but i think this one is not a good joke.

So you believe that the new anthem will have to be an ode to the Greek-Turkish friendship right? So the anthem you chose shows that clearly....your ideal anthem will start talking about the past, the occupied areas and free areas etc and will be called "Vromiko toixos" ...which will show our deep love ... of course I can see that coming out from those words. And also its made for the NEW Cyprus as you said....thats why will mention the Greek line and the harm is been done to our souls. Yeap...love, friendship are the words you can use to describe your ideal anthem. So tell me one thing....your new Cyprus is a divided island with dirty walls and green lines?

I totally agree with you    Great anthem for the new Cyprus!!!!!!!

I thought the powerful lyrics of the song made a mockery of the warmongers of the forum who are scared stiff at the prospect of solution.

We already have powerful anti-war and pro-liberty lyrics in the present Anthem. It also reminds us of our past struggle to gain liberty, and how we are now restored! (for the re-unification)

We knew thee of old,
O, divinely restored
By the lights of thine eyes,
And the light of thy Sword.
From the graves of our slain,
Shall thy valour prevail,
As we greet thee again,
Hail, Liberty! Hail!

I am glad you have come round to accepting it has to be in Greek though  ... Good boy Bananiot, there is hope for you yet in returning to your Hellenic roots (like people return to God before they die  )
