1ST SEPTEMBER LIGHT YOUR CANDLE FOR CYPRUS!

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Tess, let me explain to you a few things from a Greek Cypriot perspective, and I hope I will manage to enlighten you a bit, after so long in this forum.

1. We are not at war with the Turkish Cypriots in the first place, to want to have peace with them! The thousands of TCs crossing south every day, neither cross nor feel they do into a battle field! No one in his right senses visits hospitals for health services, or works in companies operated by his enemy, whom he feels he is at war with!

2. We are at war with Turkey -whose troops illegally occupying our country and our properties, and violate our human rights to freely enjoy both of them; and we do not want to have peace with it (Turkey,) before and unless it ends the violations of our human, social and heritage rights associated the illegal occupation of our country.

I hope you now better understand why the GCs are disinterested in general, in such a kind of absurd "peace" activities, for they are entirely missconceived and misguided! They aim at promoting "peace" with the people we are not at war with in the first place, while at the same time the perpetrator of the only war we are engaged with (Turkey,) continues to act in ways that do not naturally warrant the conditions for one to want to have peace with it.

Thank you Kafenes. I understood that when a settlement is reached, the Turkish troops will be drastically reduced in numbers, yes? Many of my TC friends also want the majority of Turkish troops out. Many of them also say that GC's should be able to return to their homes and that those properties left behind should not be sold. This forum is surely just a tiny cross section of the actual Cypriot people, and like many forums attracts a lot of, lets say extremists - because they can be anonymous and not really made accountable for their vitriolic opinions. I have never condoned the loss of property and life, but I do choose to live here for personal reasons, but believe me, there are a lot of TC's who want this situation to end. My leaving the country will not acheive a damn thing, and is not an option. But thank you for at least not telling me to F***k off.

Spot on and really sad that it is necessary to have to put yourself to the trouble to explain the situation so simply.
Surely the vast difference between the TURK and the T/C is as obvious as the day is to the night.
Lighting candles is of little consequence, other than to gull people into believing that there is something to be gained by surrendering the integrity of both the G/C and T/C to an alien culture.
All the problems between both G/C and T/C are and were carefully planned by both military and political sources, the result of which is the situation that now exists in the once wonderful island of Cyprus.
Sadder is the fact that those same sources will ensure that the position will remain in it's limbo state regardless of what the genuine population of Cyprus, the TRUE Cypriots, would like to see.
Knowing of the nature of the genuine Cypriot, what a cunning ploy the lighting of candles is, a below the belt blow to a community which truly believes [and I am one that does not] in the mystic power of such actions.

Lighting candles at the point of a bayonet [metaphorically speaking] is just another nail in the coffin of a desired [by the people] solution, a solution which unfortunately is as far beyond reach as the stars above us.

The die has been cast, the rest is a load of old waffle, wait and see. :(

Two good posts there from Kifeas and Maynard.
Can you please now explain the significance of them to Oracle who doesn't seem to share that view?

I wouldn't, however, ever condemn the efforts of anyone who felt they were doing something rather than nothing.

You only have yourselves to blame. I can't believe you still act like it's us with the problem!

You've turned down solutions you'd accept in an instant today, so how is that OUR fault?

TC would you like me to remind you of the 30 years of Denktash (Mr No)?
I for one would not accept the AP which was rejected by us, now or ever.

Peace vigil
By Stefanos Evripidou

A GROUP of Turkish Cypriot NGOs is holding a candlelight vigil at Ledra Palace Hotel on September 1 to mark World Peace Day.

September 1, 1939 was the first day of the most destructive war in recent history, the Second World War. It is now chosen as the date to reflect on the hope for world peace.

The Cyprus Turkish Teachers’ Trade Union, under the umbrella of the Cyprus Peace Platform, is calling on all Cypriots to gather at 7pm on September 1, at Ku?ulu Park or Eleftheria Square on either side of divided Nicosia and walk towards Ledra Palace Hotel.

“We will cry out for peace together in chorus. We will sing songs and celebrate the beginning of our common struggle for peace. Therefore we are happy to invite the Greek Cypriots, Turkish Cypriots, Armenians, Maronites and Latins to light a candle for peace and for the common struggle for a unified Cyprus,” said the Cyprus Peace Platform press release.

Since you have gone to the trouble of scrutinising my posts, perhaps you can show me any one, of the many on this thread, which conflict with what either Kifeas or Maynard say.

If you cannot be bothered, which is your usual absurd, cop-out response that allows you to make ridiculous statements that you never seem to back up ... kindly accept yourself as the troll you are constantly confirming to be, and avoid reading my posts.
