I've seen TC at the march for Cyprus in central London...and its not a Greek one but a march for reunification and removal of Turkish troops and settlers from northern Cyprus.

2 years ago a guy drove past with a turkey flag shouting thanks for our new homes. as you would expect the police ran over before an angry mob killed him.

Ok, I see your point but you don't think that TC have a right of demonstration as well?

Yes detailer, I do believe that people have the right to demonstrate. However, in the case of this march, I don't see that it will achieve anything other than antagonism between the GC and TC communities in the capital. If it was a march in favour of promoting talks on a solution, in which GC and TC were marching together, I'd be on the train in a second. That would also be newsworthy stuff if they all attended - can you imagine 200,000 GC and TC marching together for reconciliation - that would definitely make the news and more importantly it would put political pressure on the political leaders in Cyprus to do something in response.

This march... a few thousand at most waving banners and flags, with the hardliners waving their Kemalist slogans (not Big Brother Kemal!) and calling for recognition of the TRNC.

London has hundreds of such marches every year and they are not newsworthy events outside of their communities. They have no impact on UK national policy and once everyone's dispersed, they are quickly forgotten.

So excuse my cynicism, but I think such marches are a waste of time and resources and do more harm than good.

I wish you'd get off your high horse sometimes M@C, you're a smart fellow and it doesn't particularly become you. If VP wishes to add emphasis, let him use bold. If his argument still stinks, it won't make it any more salient.
