HELP! Info needed on stopping Developers in TRNC

Postby Nicole22 » Mon Aug 25, 2008 1:26 am

I am 3rd generation British born Cypriot and have inherited land in the north which I am led to believe is now being developed into a holiday village. How can I stop this from happening?

Does any one know of a good solicitor in the North who can fight my case?

sorry you lost the game ;) how about you engage the services of the Blair woman. She appears to take up cases from the occupied areas of Cyprus. But she'll only do it if you exploit GC property. Thats the VBritish elite for you.

Are you serious, Humanist? Is there nothing I can do to stop them building on my land?

Hi Nicole, I am a GC and sometimes my coments are skewed because I believe there is great injustice that takes place each and every day with the Turkish army and TC administration that supports exploitation and violation of human rights.

If you are a GC and your inheritance is being built on, well you may be stuffed. Recently Tony Blairs wife defended two Britons who were sold a GC refugee property and buit a home on it. Mrs Blair instead of supporting this couple to take the crook to court she instead supported them at the loss of the refugee the case is still pending at the european court. With high profile people behaving in this way it is any one guess what might happen.

Having said that if you are of a GC ancestry it will interesting if you approached the Blair witch to see how she would fair given you are British and your inheritance is violated by Turks and more accurately TC's who support the sale of GC refugee property.

I think though you need more than a Turkish lawyer from the occupied area.

On the other hand if you are of TC ancestry you may be abe to get someone from there to represent you. In any case I would take your situation to the courts.

People have taken their cases to the European Court of Human Rights and have been awarded compensation. However, the ECHR is not worth the decisions it makes because Tkey is refusing to honour the courts findings hence people loose out anyway. It will only be effective once Europe stands by its member State Cyprus and imposes econmic embargoes on Turkey if she does not a withdraw its troops from Cyprus and b pay up on those cases that have gone to court.

Hi Nicole, I'm sorry but I don't know of anything you can do to stop them.

I just wanted to warn you that there is a 'properties commission' operating in the 'TRNC' which supposedly compensates landowners but the RoC government strongly advises people not to use it. The commission doesn't do anything to protect your land from illegal developers or anything like that, they basically just buy the deeds from you at a fraction of the land's actual value.

Hopefully someone else might be able to help you more.

If you are in the UK .... go and see your MP.

Highlight the problem to him/her and pressure them to represent you, and any other Cypriots, who might be in a similar situation. He is your representative in Parliament, and should support your concerns for Human Rights' violations, such as this.

Hello Nicole, joing the club, with 200,000 GC refugees evicted from their homes you are not alone.

There isn't a dickie bird you can do, but you may like to ask Bananiot and alakcen to give you some sympathy as they seem to approve of this kind of action.

Good luck you are gonna need it.

Hi Nicole 22,

You are approaching the problem from the wrong end.
You should approach the GC administration for compensation as it was their predecessors rash adventurism 1963-1974 that led to the intervention of Turkey and the confiscation of GC land in the North. I would get your lawyer to sue the GC government. You've got a better chance of getting something from them, anyway.
If thats no good try the Immovable Property Commission in the North and take what you can get.
