The machines heat the mats which produce some kind of vapour that supposedly gets rid of them..... plug it in just before you goto sleep. Where I am right now (outside of Cyprus), that's what I do and so far, it's mostly been working.
I used to have a friend who actually enjoyed letting mosquitoes bite him - he'd watch them land, bite and their belly (or whatever) fill with his blood, then he'd splatter them before they flew off.
He died of malaria a few years back, shame that!

It was terrible because we all knew how he used to mess around letting the mosquitoes bite him, but this was when he lived in the US, and malaria wasn't a problem. I don't think he would have deliberately let them bite him in South Africa, but they did and it killed him.
