If my son goes for a Paphitisa then its not such a big problem because I find the female version of the paphitis donkey stubborness as a necessity when marrying a hair brained Cypriot man.

There speaks a wise father ...

Lets face the truth, that almost all the TC's living in the UK or elsewhere, whether born in Cyprus or abroad, who had gotten married to a non Turkish ethnicity person, was hardly approved deep down in their parent's hearts at the time of the marriage. No matter how much the parents come to in accepting their "foreign" son/daughter in-laws, they would have preferred if their children got married to one of their own. I suspect the same would be with the GC parents, except they have one less major obstacle to deal with, which is religion, unless their children married a non Christians.

I remember when my UK born nephew got married few years ago to an English girl, he asked his mother on his wedding day whether she was happy for him or not , and her reply was, "yes my son, I'm happy for you, but had you married a "Turkish" girl, I would have been happier".!! I'm sure these remarks by the mother had dampened his spirit somewhat, being he was about to get married to the girl he loved.

Bubbles .. you are missing the material essence of what I am saying ...

As a mum, my duty is to bring up an independent, self-assured adult who knows the difference between right and wrong and who respects other people's Rights.

I have always maintained we are just ONE RACE with different cultures, some I prefer over others. If he prefers a different culture to mine, then I have achieved my objective ... so I will be happy.

There is no stronger guiding light than having a friend/lover/spouse who appreciates the difference between right and wrong.

In imparting this desire for Human Rights in my son, I have no doubts he will make the right decision for himself.[/quote

Oracle, I believe that your son will make his choice by his own heart, but after all you have written, I still cannot see you letting your 'hatred' go to accept his choice if he does indeed chose a Turkish person. You can fool yourself, but I am not convinced, sorry! :(

So Saint Paul was wrong then when he wrote that Paphiots are no good and if you come across a good one then he is not a Paphiot. Mind you, he said that after he was whipped 39 times in Paphos, so his view was a little clouded by anger. However, note that even though Paphos was under the Romans at the time, Saint Paul did not refer to Romans, he specifically mentioned Paphiots.

Why do you assume that people choose their mates exclusively based on their hormones? (heart is just an organ, it doesn't affect the choice in any way)

How you feel about somebody is not affected just by the appearance of that person. You might be initially attracted to a person due to his or her physical appearance, but unless you are very shallow you will also base your feelings for this other person on the views, the culture of this person and many other attributes.

Personally I don't think I could have any positive feelings for somebody that supports crimes against my country and I wouldn't expect my children to do this either. If they did, then I would not be happy about it.

Beyond this, there is the question of language. I would want my grandchildren to speak Greek, and also not to be forced into any religion. Other that this I don't care what ethnicity the persons my children will choose will be.
