Misprint!

Postby SSBubbles » Sat Aug 23, 2008 1:13 am

Heard this on the radio and it made me smile!

A lady in the UK bought her great niece a book for her 5th - or was it her 6th birthday?

This lady read the book first to ensure the contents were suitable for her great niece. She was horrified at one word that was continually printed so she contacted the publisher who quickly corrected the misprint and the word now reads 'Twit'!

Gosh O, my sides are splitting!

I think the missing letter was A - i.e. a word I detest but maybe referring to you!

I do not know the title of the book Kafene.

The word should have read 'twit' but I believe it was misprinted with an A! Not very suitable for little ones!

Plenty of precedent: Robert Browning famously misused the term in his 1841 poem "Pippa Passes", believing it to be an item of nun's clothing:

Then owls and bats
Cowls and twats
Monks and nuns in a cloister's moods
Adjourn to the oak-stump pantry
