well pantheman, I think we all need to give a shit. Violence against other people is not to be taken lightly. Our Island was violently attcked in 74 and people died, that is a fact, however, it is not an excuse for thugs to violate other human beings. It is clear that if the incident did take place it was a violence of race and that too is un acceptable.

What I am curious to know is how mainland Turks have come to live in the village? I thought they are not allowed past the Green Line.

you don't give shit .... don't give

but you do give credit to others to say ''Touching upon the recent incident in the mixed village of Pile where properties of Turkish Cypriots were vandalized, Democrat Party Leader said that such incidents carried the risk of spiraling out of control in the absence of Turkey’s effective guarantee and right of intervention.''

That is the idea Halil. The people that did this have the begining of the peace talks at the back of their mind and they will do everything possible to undermine them. Already Volkan has taken the cue. Peace will not come easy but together we can contain the bigots in both communities.

My experience of village life is reflected in a comment by a TC friend from Kouklia (Famagusta) who said "you start making love to your wife and before you finish they are discussing your position at the coffee shop".

So I am a little wary of so many shops and school etc being attacked in a village, where nothing can be hidden or kept secret, and lo and behold, no one has seen or heard anything!

Someone is jerking my chain here. And I do not like it.

The Street where it happened is not much of a residential street. There are no houses on opposite side of the road, maybe a few houses behind the shops but nohing in the front where all the acts of vandalisim happened. If you're in a deep sleep at 4am, with fans or air con going it's hard to hear what's going on outside your home. I never would have heard it.

Pyla is a very quiet vllage. You can drive down the main road (where these effected shops are located) at 1am and you wo'nt pass another car or person. There are not many places to eat or drink and those places that do exist do not stay open all night long. I would personally love to live in Pyla due to it's quietness.

Which quietness would have made the footsteps and vehicles noises of the idiots who did the damage much more audible. So I am saying that some people saw and heard but no one wants to talk. You can't smash shop windows in total silence, you gotta make some noise!

If you have ever tried to smash a car windshield you will know what I mean. (The car was mine by the way and I was trying to remove a cracked shield, so no clever comments!)

Unfortunately vandalism happens like this all the time in the UK and no one says anything. There's a twitch of the curtains to see what's going on and as long as it doesn't effect you, no one does anything. You can report it to the police, but little is done and then you're likely to get in to trouble. This is the state of affairs in the world now, yes even in Cyprus. I have spoken to friends and relatives there. The island is changing, lets face it.
