For those who are not aware the recently elected mayor of London has substantial powers unknown in any other British city.

There has just been an interesting programme on tv in that the current mayor named Boris Johnson would have been Boris Kemal if his family name had not been changed.

His great grandfather was a Turkish journalist and later a politician who it seems was killed as he had the strength to stand up for his beliefs...... rare for a politician. Although generally supporting the aspirations of another Kemal (Ataturk) he was against violence and was arrested after Atarturk took power. After being interrogated a crowd stoned and beat him to death ,stole his possessions,including his trousers and hung him up.
