Very good!!!! The "condensed pocket version"!!!! What more does O want? Oh, some pictures maybe, and a little mini statue covered in luminous paint for her bedside table???

Some guy called Demetriou I think, made a biographic movie on Makarios, called "the long path of Makarios" (Μακάριος, η μεγάλη πορεία). I met this guy on the aeroplane on August 5 1977, a couple of days after Makarios died and he told me that Makarios would watch and change the script many times before the film was released.

Perhaps he was a perfectionist constantly trying to improve!

.... this is why I want a good biography which ties up the political atmosphere pervading the life of this amazing, superior leader and ground-breaker.

But mostly I want to know how he was perceived as a man. I know he had a great sense of humour, magnetism and a powerful presence.

But I guess you have not read any books Bananiot ....

Those look like a great start, thank you Talisker ... you are good at Googling.

However, there are no reviews presented.

Has anyone read any of the above? Vanezis sounds Greek so I guess he is trustworthy as an author.

But I would appreciate any personal recommendations by anyone who has read any biographies on Makarios.
