Rotating Presidency?

How can we solve it? (keep it civilized)

Postby alekcen » Fri Aug 22, 2008 1:56 am

hey am really surprised by the opinion of humanist and oracle. I want to ask if u had ever heard of the word realism, or being realistic???

You make all this scenarios thinking that you are on your own.

The Cyprus issue is not a problem of majority-minority ( 18%-82%) , and it cannot be consider as one. To fully understand the Cyprus issue we should look back from the 1950 until today. We shoudlnt neglect that the GC were the first that violated the 1960 treaty, and that they are responsible for ethnic cleansing between 1963-74 ( not forget akritas plan, and etc). Having all this in mind and the negotiations that followed after 1974, and also taking into consideration the international opinion and interest, we seek a solution based in bi-communal , bi-zonal federation. So if the new constitution says about a TC being president for 2 years and a GC for 3 years is welcome by me.

Thats political equality, and we all want that so crimes of the past never be repeated.

Those who want partition, and make all this fantasy scenario that foreign diplomats will die from laughing , should move to greece and turkey and leave as alone.

"Also the thing about the British giving back the area they occupy that humanist suggest , made me laugh forn 10 minutes, cheers mate :D
Do you realise that we all live in a world of interest, and cause of cyprus geographical place that is impossible !!!

Nope! ... I'm in great spirits .... only hate Turks ... that's a lot less than everybody else, if they were honest.

But you utu .... you have a serious problem with your judgemental, accusatory nature, boy!

Beside you are easily distracted ..... concentrate on the discussion, not the debater!

You should be more like me, don't give a damn about anything, apart from a few well chosen passions :D

Now don't ruin Sotos' thread .... back to your views on the thread, please.

You DO give a damn about the island of Cyprus, Oracle. You want to see it as one undivided island again. There's nothing wrong with being passionate about that. However, your posts as to what to do with those living north of the current Green Line is another thing entirely. Granted, the Anatolian settlers must leave, but the Turkish Cypriots themselves are a people you are defining IN TOTO as criminals and interlopers. That is simply wrong.

I have no problem with TC being a president of Cyprus as long as that person was elected by the majority of the Cypriot people as a whole. Like in the USA that Obama will (hopefully) be elected by the majority of the USA citizens as a whole.

The above would be the true democratic way to go.

Beyond that, the maximum compromises we should be willing to do, is somehting like this:

3 terms for where GCs only will vote in the first round and 1 term where TCs only will vote in the first round.

Instead of 2 rounds of elections to have 3 rounds. From the first round where only GCs or only TCs will vote will pass the first 4 candidates. Then the second and third round will follow as usual with all Cypriots voting together as one body.

This way, the TCs in one out of 3 terms they will be able to choose the 4 possible presidents. The the one who will be a president will be the one preferred by most Cypriots as a whole.

This way the TC elected as president will need to be likable by TCs (otherwise he wouldn't pass from the first round) but he should also be acceptable by the Cypriot people as a whole, otherwise he would not be elected as president. And vice versa for GCs.

You are wrong mate. The first ones that attacked where the TCs against the GCs:

And the only ethnic cleansing that happened in Cyprus was that of 1974 against Greek Cypriots. During the intercommunal conflict (which TCs started) many people from all communities (GCs, TCs, Armenians etc) where dislocated, but by 1968 most of them were able to return to their homes, and those that didn't was because they choose not to.

Alekcen, there are indeed many people in this forum that need to do a reality check, but unfortunately one of them is you! You have "wholesale-swallowed" the Turkish propaganda, and then you come here to talk about "realities," just like the "realities on the ground" Denktash and the Turks used to talk! On what basis and evidence are you accusing the GCs for being "responsible for ethnic cleansing between 1963-74?" Have the GCs kicked the TCs out of Cyprus? Have they exterminated them? If so, how it comes and when they were counted in 1973, they were the 18.4% of the people of Cyprus, as many as they were in 1960? Apart from the Turkish propaganda that makes claims about such an imaginative "ethnic cleansing," who else does say such a thing? Have you heard or red such claims from the UN, or the UK and the US, whose governments were present and deeply involved with Cyprus? Have you actually red the Akritas plan, and if so, where does it say that it was an "ethnic cleansing" plan?

As for the constitution, and what it will say and will be acceptable by you; it will only say what we will agree it to say, and "rest sure" the GC side will never agree on a 3:2 rotating presidency, in order to keep you happy, my dear "realist" little-parrot friend!

The whole point of this rotating presidency thing is to make sure that the Federation president will never truly represent the whole of Cyprus. It is a simple yet effective way to weaken Cyprus as a nation. The shocking thing is that Cypriots are falling for it. And even worse is the Presidential council idea where a group of people are supposed to collectively set policy.

But, those that have thought up these ideas forget that these are double edged weapons. And at some point they could end up working against them.

I fully agree with you Nikitas. This is why the system should be such that anybody to get elected be it GC or TC should need the votes of the majority of Cypriots as a whole.

The "presidential council" idea exists simply to downgrade the value of the central goverment and create a situation where the most important leaders in Cypurs would be the ones of the two separate states, and not the leader of Cyprus as a whole (since such would not exist). Just another attempt of the Turks to make sure the "solution" is as close to partition as possible.

wathc this video, although in some things at the end i dont angry, it shows some truth.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-Qp0Iqj_KHM

On the basis that , we first kicked them out of the Goverment, and we were first responsible for what happened in 1963, cause we one-sided changed the 1960s constitution trying to deprive all the rights from the TC.
Have u ever heard of Akritas plan? Have u ever heard that, when we had the power in 1960s, we made life so difficult for TC by not making roads to their villages, or schools, or electricity networks, etc. Also u should learn about the many murders comitteed on cold-blood, also about the 1967 war-crimes at Kofinou, were a whole Greek betalion invited the village of kofinou ( Grivas as a leader of the operation) and the killed everyone, including women and children. The evidence are there, we just have to look for them.

Uhhhh...I am sure you have an objective source supporting your claim....and just to clarify things a bit, by objective source I mean not your ass, because I can claim all day long that I saw the tooth fairy screw Santa Claus, but until I can post a picture showing so, it doesn’t make it true now does it....get my drift!
